2/1/2012: Anchorage, Alaska
Samantha Koenig kidnapped/murdered.

2/2 - 17, 2012:
Alaska Airlines flight (Anchorage, Alaska to Houston, Texas round-trip).

2/2-17, 2012:
Vehicle rental (Thrifty); 2011 Kia, Texas license plate CN8M857; drove 2,847 miles - Houston, TX. On February 12{?}, 2012, Keyes rented a blue 2011 Kia Soul from a Houston car rental agency and had the vehicle until February 18, 2012. Rental records show 2,847 miles were logged in that time period. In addition to Keyes’ time in Houston, investigators suspect he spent a large part of his time in the Dallas area, where his family lived.
{I am confused by the information about the car, one thing says the 2nd, another says the 12th was when it was rented. The source information conflicts, so I went with what made sense. If he didn't rent it on the 2nd when he flew into Houston, how did he get to N.O?}

2/2 – 5/2012: Lafayette, Lousiana
Hotel reservation (Americas Best Value Inn) - Lafayette, Louisiana.
(Although he denied it, investigators believe Keyes may be responsible for a homicide in Texas or a surrounding state during this time.)

2/6 – 11/2012: New Orleans, Lousiana

The Missing Texas Forty

With 40 people missing from two adjoining counties, is it something sinister or is it just a coincidence?

Written by Jerrie Dean
Researched and edited by Helen Harriman-Oliver

As Helen did her research, she came up with several more names in Liberty County and several more from the adjacent Montgomery County, and emailed me a map she had put together. As I was looking at it, my son, who is planning on becoming a U.S. Marshal when he grows up, said he saw a pattern, but there were a couple of spots missing. So, I typed in the town along with the word missing person and sure enough a name popped up. I typed in another town where there was a missing spot on the map, and another name of a missing person came up. This new information warranted further investigation to see if there were more in that particular county.

Statistics

I contacted Helen and after her extensive research in the two adjoining counties of Montgomery County (population 450,000) and Liberty County (75,000), she came up with an astounding 39 people missing. Then yesterday another name was added raising the number to 40.

Standoff with police Wednesday in Liberty County tied to investigation of missing Crosby man

Is the Romayor neighborhood a hotbed of criminal activity?
Posted: Thursday, March 22, 2012 8:12 pm

By VANESA BRASHIER

At around 7 a.m. on the day his disappearance, Rhineburger’s 2005 four-door white Chevy truck was found crashed into a dilapidated home near the Trinity River Bridge on FM 787 about a half-mile from CR 2148 in Romayor. The vehicle was out of gas and Rhineburger was nowhere to be seen.

The last person to see Rhineburger, according to his brother and sister-in-law, was a store clerk at the Shell station in Crosby where Rhineburger had stopped on the morning of his disappearance. They say he told the clerk that he felt someone was following him, so he waited a while inside the store.

Man's disappearance leaves another Liberty County mystery
By Lomi Kriel | March 29, 2012 | Updated: March 29, 2012 11:09pm

ROMAYOR - The day before his truck crashed into a dilapidated house in rural Liberty County and Mark Rhineburger disappeared into these thick piney woods, the welder told his brother that someone was trying to steal his work truck.

Then he canceled a Valentine's Day dinner with his former fiancée. He told her someone had tried to break into his trailer. He would call her later.

At about 5 a.m. Feb. 15, his 39th birthday, Rhineburger walked into a Crosby gas station near his home and said he was being followed. An hour later he pulled up to a Cleveland gas station, saying he had no money, was out of gas and being "chased." Around 7 a.m., sheriff's deputies say his white Chevrolet hurtled into a house near the Trinity River Bridge off FM 787. The property owners rushed to check on the driver. There wasn't one. The keys were still in the ignition.

Mystery of 3 missing Liberty County men remains unsolved
By Cindy Horswell | February 2, 2013 | Updated: February 2, 2013 11:06pm

Mark Rhineburger, a welder from Crosby, disappeared Feb. 15 - on his 39th birthday - after his white Chevrolet truck crashed into a vacant house off FM 787. Authorities shortly afterward found his vehicle empty and no sign of a struggle. Six weeks later, Rhineburger's jacket with his cellphone in the pocket was found a few miles away near a remote gravel pit, authorities said.

His daughter, A, said when she last spoke to her father he said he was meeting someone on his birthday.

Questions remain in Tarkington man’s disappearance

Missing Tarkington resident Edwin Rogers last spoke to relatives by phone lat Friday evening, Dec. 30. His abandoned jeep was found the next day less than half a mile from his home, across the road from Big Thicket Veterinary Clinic on SH 321. Rogers was reported missing on Jan. 6. Members of Texas EquuSearch, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the Tarkington Volunteer Fire Department searched areas along SH 321 between Cleveland and Tarkington for missing resident Edwin Rogers, 62. Rogers, last seen on Dec. 30, was reported missing Friday, Jan. 6.

Dennis walked the loop around his house every day, but March 8th got lost and has never been found. Someone overheard something in a bar and now they are looking into foul play.

IK was in Shepard, TX on 3/8/12. Only about 10 miles (per google) to Plum Grove, where Dennis' house was.

HOUSTON – The search resumed Saturday for a man who disappeared after taking a walk in Liberty County.

Dennis Rogers has been missing since Thursday night.

Rogers, 54, had an accident several years ago that left him with the mental capacity of a 9-year-old, family members said.

Man with short-term memory loss still missing; foul play suspected
By Cindy Horswell | March 23, 2012 | Updated: March 24, 2012 12:01am

The most unusual twist to the story occurred on March 17, when someone told investigators about overhearing customers at the No Tab Bar - located in a metal building down a secluded dirt road in New Caney - alluding to the possibility that someone had already found Rogers and harmed him.

WOW Lucky1, when you read the articles you provided makes one wonder if these 3 men were all victims of Keyes......Good Work Lucky1

I didn't see this link posted so I will add

I noticed this when doing the timeline, thought I would see if anyone has any ideas why.

3/7/12: Wilcox, Arizona.
ATM withdrawal

Wilcox to Shepard - 1,034 miles - about 14 hours, 20 minutes

3/8/12: Shepard, Texas.
ATM withdrawal

Shepard to Lordsburg - 960 miles - about 13 hours, 16 minutes

3/8/12: Lordsburg, New Mexico.
ATM withdrawal

Lordsburg to Humble - 923 mi – about 12 hours 49 mins

3/10/12: Humble, Texas.
ATM withdrawal

3/11/2012: Wells, TX

3/13/2012: Lufkin, TX

https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

WHY all the crisscrossing back and forth on I-10? Why make an ATM withdrawal in AZ, then go to TX, back to NM then back to TX???? What could possibly be the point of this? There are ATM's everywhere....no need to go from state to state. He would have had to cross through several border patrol check stations, multiple times. That should have raised some red flags IMO.

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travel_Act"]Travel Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Elements of the crime

Subsection (a) of the statute sets forth the elements of an offense under the Travel Act. The acts prohibited are interstate or foreign travel, or use of the mails or "any facility in interstate or foreign commerce", for the purpose of distributing the proceeds of an unlawful activity, committing a crime of violence in furtherance of an unlawful activity, or to "promote, manage, establish, carry on" an unlawful activity. The offense is completed when a person engages in travel or use of the mails with the intent of committing any of the aforementioned acts, and then goes on to commit or attempt to commit one of the prohibited acts. This has the effect of making the act of traveling (or using the mail) in furtherance of certain types of crime a separate indictable offense from the underlying crime(s) the person is committing.[2]

Definition of "unlawful activity"

Subsection (b) of the statute defines "unlawful activity" for the purposes of the Travel Act. The activities specified in this subsection include illegal gambling, liquor on which the Federal excise tax has not been paid, controlled substance offenses, prostitution offenses, extortion, bribery, or arson which violate either Federal law or the laws of the state in which they are committed. The inclusion of state-level crime in the Act is important because it effectively federalizes certain state laws which may not have analogous provisions at the Federal level.[3] For example, some states have laws prohibiting commercial bribery (bribery which does not involve government officials), but there is no Federal statute which directly addresses this issue. However, travel or use of the mails in furtherance of violations of state commercial bribery laws can be prosecuted by the United States Department of Justice in Federal court.[2]

For a person as allegedly intelligent as IK, it seems extremely strange to me that he would violate every single rule he had in this last episode. He abducted a woman 6 miles away from his home, held and murdered her in the shed next to his house, ransomed her, then committed interstate fraud by using her ATM card in AK, AZ, NM and TX. :waitasec: I can't imagine a scenario with a greater risk of being caught. IMO. He might as well have drawn a straight line to himself.

And all this by the man who claimed to carry a sawed off shotgun "just in case" he was caught by local LE. IIRC he said he would never be taken alive....well, what happened to that plan?

A real long shot. Here is what I posted on Carol's thread:

I thought of Carol Daniels today as I was reading information about Israel Keyes.

He told investigators that he had considered taking victims to a church, where he would either simply leave the body to be found, or to burn the church down with the victim's body in it. He drove around in Vermont, looking for suitable churches in small towns. He had issues with organized religion. He was also know to use things to hasten the decomp of bodies.

He did burn a house down in Texas, so it's known that he was an arsonist.

I think it's a long shot that he was involved in Carol's murder, but I don't think it can be completely written off. IK wasn't known to be in the OK/TX area at the time of her murder. He lived in Alaska at the time, however he traveled extensively and his mother and some siblings lived in Texas at the time.

Carol was a pastor found murdered in her small church, behind the altar. Her body was 'posed', nude and mutilated and a dissolving agent was sprayed around her body. Her hair was burned.

Here is Carol's thread:

Carol Daniels was found dead in the Christ Holy Church in Anadarko last Sunday. The Oklahoman is reporting that Daniels was found nude, and her clothes were taken from the church.

Vernon Geberth, a homicide expert and author, believes the killer may have posed Daniel's body like a crucifixion out of anger or retribution.

"The presentation of a body, especially that of clergy person, in a manner suggestive of a crucifixion would lead me to believe the offender has focused his attack on some underlying anger or retribution," Geberth said. Geberth said the details will be important to this investigation.

"The immediate problem that I see for criminal investigators is that they're not privy to the offenders motivation or his thinking pattern," Geberth said. "In all honesty, the devil will be in the details."

"I've prosecuted over 50 murders," District Attorney Bret Burns said. "This is the most horrific crime scene I've ever witnessed." He declined to elaborate, saying he did not want to jeopardize the investigation.

Pastor Steve Palczynsky of the Cedar Hill Church of God in Anadarko said lack of official word is disconcerting and that he's taken extra steps to make sure his church is secure.

A preliminary autopsy deemed Daniels' death a homicide caused by "multiple sharp force injuries," said Cherokee Ballard, spokeswoman for the state Medical Examiner's office.

"The first thing I thought about, being human, was that maybe it was a serial killer and maybe he has something out for preachers, but the Lord takes care of us," he said.
Tracy Schumpert, pastor of the town's First United Methodist Church, said members of the local clergy will meet Wednesday with Burns to discuss the case.

"It's still very new, and we don't know what to think," she said. "Anything that happens like that, it's a community concern."

Police say 61-year-old Carol Daniels' body was posed. Experts say there are three reasons killers leave the body in an unnatural position.

The most common is sexual fantasy or to give the killer sexual pleasure. Next is the anger-retaliation motive, where someone does it to get back at the victim. And finally, the motive of posing the body may be to confuse investigators - to make the scene look like one thing, when it's actually about something else.

"Less than one percent of all homicides present sexually posed victims."

Police have not released any information concerning sexual assault in Pastor Daniels' case; however, the autopsy diagrams show her left breast was severely injured, which Geberth says is sexual in nature.

"I do see mutilation to the breast, so I have to assume it's a sexual presentation, the cutting to the throat is also interesting, because it's sexual as is strangulation," Geberth said.

The diagrams show what look like defensive wounds on her hands, and her neck injury was devastating, possibly to the point of near decapitation.

Remember the knife he kept asking about when they went through his boat? Can't remember the type, but he said they would find blood on it.....seemed a little concerned about the discovery of that knife. Sorry, can't remember which interview it was mentioned in.

Israel Keyes, Serial Killer, Gave Up Bodies In Washington On Released FBI Tapes (VIDEO)

Keyes lived in Washington state before moving to Anchorage in 2007.

In a Nov. 29 interview, just three days before he was found dead in his jail cell from suicide, Keyes asked if investigators had found any knives at his New York property or on a boat he owned in Washington state. He said there were two knives missing from his girlfriend's home in Anchorage, and he didn't know where they were.

He was particularly concerned about a Cold Steel Tanto, 4 1/2-inch folding knife he bought in Port Angeles, Wash. Asked by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Feldis why the knife was important, Keyes indicated authorities might find something if they took it apart.

Was it blood?

"Well, there might, not on it, maybe inside somewhere," Keyes replied.

He said, "yeah," when asked if the knife was associated with one of the Washington killings.

However, there are contradictions in Richardson's story. In a published report, he said the blood soaked suspect was black and bald-headed, but he told NEWS 9 he was wearing a ski mask.

Man Claims He Saw Murder Suspect Fleeing Anadarko Church

Lucky1, I sat and read the forum on this crime and all stories....The man that saw this was said to be homeless, but later on someone told the press he was not homeless but had choose to stay at the car wash for years.....with all that being said I go back to the Boca Raton Mall shootings, Jane Doe was told by her abductor to tell LE that he was Short, Black and Fat.....Sounds like if this was Keyes, he knew this little town pretty good, and who knows if he went by the man known to be drinking at the car-wash, Keyes would have known many would not believe this man because in moo seems he may have been mentally challenged but the words that stuck out to me was "Ski-Mask"
"knife"....she was "Black"...."Church" and then posing her body in a "Crucificx"
Keyes could have been sleeping in this church and then perhaps the pastor surprised him when she un-locked the door, or I personally think he had this planned as with other victims known, she drove about 2 hours each Sunday to get to the church and then back home as stated in one of the above articles, I'm sure this Pastor had tried to witness to him and we know he proclaimed to be Atheists, this would have made him so angry just like the Elder at the Church of Wells tried to preach at him....so that is why I feel this lady is Keyes Victim in moo.....Seems he was consumed with going to churches as he stated, doing a kill, then burn the church or let the members walk in on the crime....I just feel this kill really gave him a "high" and he wanted to do more in this matter, I personally feel also the only reason this church did not burn sucessfully (only the Pastor's Hair" was that 2 of her friends showed up a little after 11:00 a.m.....Chemicals had been sprayed around this pastor's body, but only the hair burnt...Perhaps he got in a hurry to leave....but all is moo

Not sure why, but your link didn't work for me on Carol Daniels' thread, but it does here. Lucky (or, rather unlucky) for me it caused me to look up the Tanto cold steel knife.

To complement their tactical mission we have given each blade a tough, black, Tuff-Ex finish. Our testing has shown this coating offers three major advantages for tactical blades. First, it helps the blade to resist rust. Second, it eliminates glare and light reflections, which may give its user away. And third, it's a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction.
