This is a real puzzle in Toronto.
Bouquets of fresh-cut flowers lean against an old tree in the front yard of the house where the Harrisons lived and died.

They’re there for Caleb, whose body was discovered in his childhood home last Friday morning. Dead at 40, though police are keeping the cause secret.

But the tributes are also for Bridget and Bill, his parents, a healthy couple in their 60s who died a year apart in 2009 and 2010.

Three sudden and unexplained deaths in one family, in one house, in less than five years.

Bill’s cause of death was undetermined. Bridget’s was deemed suspicious. Caleb was killed.

Wow! That article is full of details and is very worth the read.

I'm convinced that someone has murdered three people and burned down a house...but who?

Did someone kill the first two then burn down the ex's house? Was he then killed in retaliation? Or were they all victims of a killer who has yet to be revealed?

Are the children of the deceased safe?

There is no shortage of possible suspects: the adopted son who was the last to die, his birth mom, family of the man he killed while drunk driving, his ex wife, her new hubby, ex's parents, siblings of both families, life-long friends or neighbors; it could be any one or none of them!

Read it and weigh in! (Without accusing anyone of course.)

Wow! It all seems to relate to custody of his children IMO.

It is the only constant throughout the years - from what I can tell.

A cleaning lady provided entry.

Mr. Harrison’s body was found by the coworker with obvious signs of trauma, said Det.-Sgt. Randy Cowan, and a post-mortem examination completed over the weekend found homicide was the cause of death.

The divorced father of two was last seen the night of Aug. 22 at nearby Eringate Park, where he was a spectator at his children’s baseball game. Cellphone records show he called his on-off girlfriend of five years after the game. It’s also believed Mr. Harrison returned home some time before midnight. The couple renting the basement apartment had been at home all night and did not report hearing a commotion.

Police have failed to find any evidence of forced entry.

Was Caleb adopted? I have searched but cannot locate this information. I see this -
Caleb Harrison was born two weeks before Christmas in 1972; he was Bill and Bridget’s only child.

Maybe Caleb's bio mom - a call girl - (noted in the star article) had other children...or his bio dad tho I haven't seen him mentioned yet.

Here is Caleb's obituary. There are many glowing tributes to him.

Here is his facebook page:

It included photos of his beautiful children. These kids have endured too much in their short lives.

ETA: you beat me to it with the obit LadyL. I got distracted in the middle of composing my post.

lol that was greenthumb but you beat me to it in posting Caleb's FB link

This is a chilling mystery, does someone have a grudge against the whole family, and are taking their time about it? Could it be someone Caleb worked with?

hmmmm...regarding the farmhouse fire, according to the ex's partner in this news article, foul play was ruled out. So I think we should take this out of the 'equation'.

The cause of the fire that decimated the Fattore’s rented bungalow has never been determined, at least to the best of Chris’s knowledge. He said the fire started in the living room and that foul play was ruled out.

One avenue...follow the money. That's a nice house in Mississauga. Who gets the money from the Harrison estate? The two kids?

Was the house mortgaged? Is that why a basement apartment was being rented out? Usually houses in those kind of neighbourhoods don't have rental apartments in them. Perhaps it generated cash flow for Caleb to pay for maintenance/housekeeping and taxes?

Quoting myself because I've had to search hard to find this answer... this info, if it was in the Star article, seems to have been deleted now. Found it here, though - http://metronews.ca/news/toronto/782395/mississauga-murder-three-deaths-one-home-and-a-mystery/

Caleb Harrison was born two weeks before Christmas in 1972. His biological mother was a “call girl” who gave him up for adoption, a relative said in a speech at his funeral Friday. Caleb was Bill and Bridget’s only child.

Great thread SilkySifaka - terrific mystery here. Thanks for it.

From a January 2009 article about CH's sentencing hearing at his DUI/crash trial.

Harrison broke a leg and suffered a hip injury in the crash. He underwent 13 months of rehabilitation.

Court heard that about a month before the deadly crash, Harrison was arrested for an assault. His marriage was crumbling and he was having problems getting access to his children. Depressed, he started drinking.

"It's no excuse but it's not a scenario we are unfamiliar with as human beings," Wendt told the court.
