During the early morning hours of December 7, 1987 a family member discovered Carrie Marshall, deceased, inside her home on the 500 blk. S. Duke St. An autopsy revealed that Marshall, pictured above left, sufferred numerous injuries from a sharp edged weapon during the incident. The scene appeared to indicate that a burglary occurred inside the home at the time when Marshall was killed. Over the past 25 years investigators from the Lancaster Bureau of Police have interviewed dozens of people regarding this homicide, yet no substantial leads have been deveolped. Police and Marshall’s surviving family members, pictured above right, are seeking answers and closure in this case.

25 years after Carrie Marshall's murder, a family lives with pain, seeks answer

A quarter-century after Carrie Marshall was stabbed to death, her survivors endure the frustration and pain of knowing the killer hasn't been caught.
And whoever killed the Lancaster city resident took more than the life of a beloved woman; the killer also took a part of the lives of her children and grandchildren.
As the anniversary of the 57-year-old mother of eight's death approaches, family members talked about who she was, their frustration that the case remains unsolved — and their hope that it still might be — and the impact the killing has had on them.

There not releasing anything about this case. They truly are waiting for someone to call in that one tip that breaks the case wide open. After 25 years, a quarter of century later, they should go ahead and just open up the files and lets see whats inside. Unfortunately, we know that's not going to happen either....This case is so cold, you could get your tongue attached to the case file.

The perp is probably dead. Due to the life they lived.

But this has neighbor written all over it.

There can be only so many people who knew she won at bingo. If "someone" was targeting bingo winners, then the police should've talked to people until they got that name.

Not sure if you're very familiar with Lancaster, PA but it's a smaller city and I agree that this case has neighbor written all over it. The homes in the 500 block of Duke St. are all row homes, a large number are in close proximity to each other and she might have mentioned to one of her neighbors that she had won at bingo.

I also agree that whoever did this is probably dead, mostly people steal to support a drug habit and habitual drug users certainly don't live long lives.

Even if she did not say one word of her bingo winnings, another person there might have mentioned it. Were winners' names posted anywhere?

Also, did she perhaps stop on her way home to buy something special? Could be anything. It doesn't have to even be expensive... just something she didn't always buy.

for some reason a cake from the store bakery keeps coming to mind... if she hardly ever bought those, then getting one as a treat might have attracted attention? speculation big time.I don't know if she went to a store.

Bumping case up. This December will mark the 35th anniversary of Carrie's murder.
