A Norcross man went on trial Tuesday on charges of killing a 3-year-old girl because she soiled her underpants.
Christopher Davenport, 27, faces murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and cruelty to children charges in Gwinnett Superior Court.
Davenport appeared to listen intently as prosecutors and defense attorneys offered different versions of what occurred on Oct. 18, 2001, when the unemployed man baby-sat his girlfriend's daughter.
Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorney David Keeton and defense attorney Lyle Porter agreed that Davenport became upset when he discovered that Joycelyn Broadway had soiled her pull-up diaper.
Both attorneys agreed that Davenport then hit the girl two times in the face. They disagreed on Davenport's intent.
