Oshawa woman fights parole for father's killer

...He was in his 50s when he took a job as caretaker of a rooming house on Brock Street, and that's where he encountered John Terrance Porter, a man described in an Ontario Court of Appeal ruling as having two obsessions in his life. One was a woman who roomed in the Brock Street building; the other was his car.

Mr. Porter, apparently determined to track the woman down, drove up to the house one afternoon in February of 1991 and asked Mr. Slingerland where she was.

"My dad did not know," Ms. Freeman said. "And he killed him."
