GUILTY Australia - Katrina 'Kate' Coker, 30, murdered, Whyalla, SA, 1 Oct 2012

October 23, 2013

MURDER victim Katrina Coker told her daughters to call the police minutes before her partner Richard James Webb killed her, the Supreme Court has heard.

Webb, 31, of Whyalla, is charged with murder over the October 2012 death of Ms Coker.

Earlier this year, Webb pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter , however the plea was not accepted by prosecutors.

Yesterday prosecutor Jim Pearce, QC, told the court the couple were arguing at their Whyalla home about Ms Coker going out with friends on the day of her death.

Mr Pearce said Webb "became enraged" and strangled her with his bare hands

Richard James Webb stands trial for murder of partner Katrina Coker

OCTOBER 22, 2013
Mr Pearce told the court that the couple had seven children between them and five of them were at home during the struggle, as well as Webb's younger sister.

He told the court the children were in the backyard when they heard the couple arguing and one of the children called out for them to stop.

He said the children then went into the house and one of Ms Coker's daughters saw Webb push her mother against the wall.

"She bounced off the wall, she fell to the floor," he said.

Mr Pearce said the children then saw Webb grab a picture frame and "smash" it down on Ms Coker's head.

"They were school photos of the kids that were smashed over Ms Coker's head."
Mr Pearce said Ms Coker tried to get up off the floor and told her daughter to call the police.

"(That was the) the last time she saw her mum," he said.

I'm sorry that happened to her, but isn't it a good thing he didn't use a gun to kill her?

Yes thankgod he didnt use a gun. Though in whyalla shootings are very rare. I think using your bare hands is bad enough. Those poor children.

Oh jeez... I hope her poor kids are doing okay. :( What a thing for them to live through.

We're doing okay in Aus this month, aren't we, for arrests and convictions? I am so glad to see another violent man handed some justice.

Thank you, those who followed and updated this case.

Rest in peace, Katrina.
