As we know, on November 29 Richard announced his plans to pursue this mission ministry. His resignation from First Baptist Church of Birmingham was effective December 31, 2013.

Homewood police investigating homicide of pastor's wife

"The Homewood Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after the wife of a local pastor was found dead inside the couple's home Tuesday.

Shortly after 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of a deceased body inside a home located at 103 Hugh Circle off of Lakeshore Drive. Upon arriving, police found the house in disarray and 52-year-old Karen Shahan dead on a couch."

Minister questioned in wife's death plans move to Germany

"ABC 33/40 has obtained newsletters and prayer cards for Richard Shahan, the Homewood minister who was questioned in connection in the death of his wife, Karen. In the letter, Shahan says he is preparing to move to Germany for three years to do mission work. He's also asking for missions support and believes his wife would have wanted him to continue his ministry."

Former Homewood pastor charged with wife's murder

"BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A former Homewood pastor whose wife was found dead inside their home in July has been charged with her murder, police confirm.

Rev. Richard Shahan was arrested late Wednesday in Tennessee for the murder of his wife Karen Shahan. A murder warrant for Shahan's arrest was issued on Dec. 31, according to Homewood police.

Homeland Security ICE agents took Shahan into custody at the Nashville International Airport around 10:55 p.m. Jan. 1."

"HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) - In the five months since Karen Shahan was found dead in her home on Hugh Circle in Homewood, little has been said publicly about the victim.

But after the arrest of Reverend Richard Shahan in her murder, a friend and former co-worker of Karen Shahan is speaking out.

Reata Nix worked with Karen Shahan at Hobby Lobby in Homewood for a year and a half.

She describes the shock she felt upon hearing of Richard Shahan's arrest."
