An 82 year-old man in Farnham, Surrey, is being questioned over the shotgun deaths of an adult woman, her mother, three German Shepherds and a Labrador. Other dogs and horses are said to be still at the property.

The women are said to be known to the man but not related, and they were shot in his home while there in connection to the animals. The man, John Lowe, was called 'a stubborn old man' after his previous brush with the law over breeding of puppies without a licence.

Thanks for that link about the documentary, I missed that. It just said on the radio it's thought the poor women might have bought a puppy from him.

Other people complained puppies they bought from him died almost as soon as they got them home, and as the man's wife died last year, I doubt conditions had improved. Maybe the same thing happened to these women and they had gone back to complain?

It's hard to believe breeders like that are allowed to continue. He is also 'known' to the police, so I guess that means they have questioned him before, if not arrested him.
 
Yes, it sounds like they were unhappy customers. He has been prosecuted for breeding without a licence, according to something I read on one of my links (or an older article linked in them, I think). Tilford's quite spread out (it doesn't have much of a village centre), and it looks like his house is down a long drive, so I expect he gets away without a lot of oversight.
 
Its horrible that this awful man killed 2 people and ran a crappy puppy mill with sick dogs but when I read that he shot 3 German shepherds and a lab, it makes my blood boil. I have and love both breeds and if anyone ever harmed a hair on their heads, they would sure be tangling with me. This man deserves the death penalty. Too bad they could only kill him once. Do they even have the death penalty where he lives? I hope good vet care is given to the animals that remained on his property and that they will all find loving, forever homes. As for the humans he killed, may God comfort and support their loved ones during this sad time.
 
Oh no. Police took his guns away in July, then returned them to him. The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because of 'previous contact' police had with Lowe.

The victims have been named as Christine Lee, 66, and her daughter Lucy, 40. Contrary to reports, it looks like they may have been related?

It's confusing me trying to work out if that makes the victims relatives or not. To be his stepdaughter, wouldn't her mother have had to be married to Lowe?

Police had removed 10 dogs so far, including puppies and a Pomeranian ( Bob Harrod's dog Sissy was a Pom), and cats, have exotic birds to remove and are still caring for chickens and horses on site, in poor condition.

The UK abolished the death penalty in the 1960s Jan. Also, the European Court of Human Rights just said England was wrong to hand out sentences of life without possibility of parole (and that is only done for the most horrific crimes).

England's Chief Justice disagreed and told judges they should continue handing out LWOP for very 'heinous crimes'. I don't think Lowe's crime would count as that, in the eyes of the law imo, but I do think he's likely to end his days in prison if found guilty, just because of his age.

Well, I hope you're right, but I wonder if his age and possible mental issues assoicated with that might means he gets off with diminished responsibility.

Lowe appeared in Guildford Crown Court today and was remanded in custody without bail to appear again March 18th. I notice there is no mention of the judge ordering a psychiatric evaluation, so maybe diminished responsibility won't be an issue?

I didn't realise he had help with the 'farm'. It makes it even more puzzling why the animals were found in such poor condition if there was a young, active person involved too.
 
I hope those tears were for the victims and not himself.
 
John Lowe, 82, has been jailed for life for murdering his partner and her daughter, Christine Lee and Lucy Lee in February. He'll have to serve at least 25 years. Lucy made an emergency call and then returned to face Lowe - perhaps to help her mother - and was shot at close range in the head. Lowe had said he intended to shoot four of his dogs, but then decided to shoot his partner and her daughter. Lucy's sister, Stacy Banner, said afterwards that she was haunted by what Lowe had done and was 'glad he's not getting out'.

'The jury at his Guildford Crown Court trial was told Lowe wanted the women "put down".

Surrey Police has apologised for returning guns confiscated from Lowe nearly a year before the shooting.

Sentencing Lowe, Mr Justice Singh praised the "extraordinary courage" of Lucy Lee after she returned to face her killer after making a frantic 999 call.'
