Oscar Pistorius: South Africa gears up for its 'trial of the century'

(CNN) -- He was one of South Africa's favorite sons, an amputee track star who defied all the odds and sprinted into the hearts of millions during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She was a staggering beauty with the brains to match, a law graduate and model whose star was on the rise.

Question: Are they having trial in SA in 10 minutes...as Saturday there.

I have already had the feeling that Oscar was a deeply paranoid and fearful man. I don't find it implausible that he thought there was an intruder in his home, however ridiculous the notion, and got scared, especially at realizing there really was a person in the bathroom. In his mind it was an intruder.

What I don't find plausible is that Reeva never screamed, alerting Oscar to stop, as she was being shot at. It's possible the head shot was first and she died instantly. However, my rather non-expert opinion tells me she must have been up at the time the other bullets hit her because they are all down her right side, her hip, her elbow and due to the trajectory of the bullets in the door. But I'm still waiting for the ballistics and medical experts to testify. A lot of trial to go. I could very well be wrong.

The State has declared that the gunshot to the head was the 4th and final shot.

Roux keeps insisting that the gunshot to the head was 1st, but I don't believe a word he says.

Let's say OP's version is true (he believed a burglar had entered the house through the bathroom window). I agree with you that Reeva would have screamed when she was struck with gunfire.

Why then did OP not cease firing when Reeva would have more than likely been screaming in pain and terror???

Roux insists the 1st shot was the head shot because, in order for OP's story to be even minimally believable (that Reeva did not scream in terror and pain while her poor body was riddled with bullets), the head shot has to be first.

I believe, as prosecutor Nel has already stated, that forensic evidence will show the gunshot to her head was last.

I think this case hinges on the forensic evidence from the autopsy report.

??
The everything is fine statement occurred several minutes before the alleged netcare call.

Is the Netcare call in evidence yet? I'm not even sure about that. But thanks for the correction if I've got the order reversed - I don't know. My assumption had been that it took neighbours a brief amount of time to report the shots, then a further brief amount of time for security to decide to connect with Oscar and do so, etc. If the sounds were at 3:17 and the call for medical help three minutes later, the two events had to be at least proximate. So my original point may still be relevant. Oscar's instinct may have been to close ranks. If he sought medical help within minutes, on his own (or were people there by then?), that is within the bounds of reason.

Oh horse feathers, no wonder I couldn't find a live feed. I missed the security guard testimony due to a lack of sleep but did read the updates and know where the online videos are located.

Anyone notice when Nel was questioning Sam, OP started writing notes to one of his lawyers and passing them forward? I wonder if Roux got the idea about one of Sams emails from OP's note passing?

Nel did confuse me a bit with his questioning of Sam about which side of the bed Oscar slept on, I know she said the right side. Just the if you're standing at the foot of the bed facing the wall questions. I questioned which wall she was facing.

Did he sleep on the side closest the sliding door to the porch?

Not that it's all that important, it just made me curious. IMO

"Just hours before Oscar Pistorius shot his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, the Blade Runner was surfing internet *advertiser censored* sites on his mobile phone."

"More leaked evidence states that Steenkamp took her cell phones with her into the toilet with her and that she was clothed; standing upright and facing the door at the time she was shot."

http://www.graziadaily.co.za/hot-stories/oscar-pistorius-state-evidence-leaked/

I thought I recalled hearing the state make brief reference earlier this week to the fact that their case would be that "Reeva was not sitting on the toilet when she was shot, but sitting on the magazine rack". Does anybody else remember that, or was I having a vivid nap at work?

Reeva was still alive...

when Oscar told Mr. Baba that "everything is fine."

Recall from the BBC3 doc on this matter, DT's own pathologsit Dr.Perumal stated that in his opinion after going to the crime scene that "Reeva died on the stairway."

But this was a few minutes after Oscar told Baba that 'everything is fine' as it took a few minutes for him to realize something was amiss and to drive over. Once there he could see Oscar carrying Reeva down the stairs.
Couple this with Perumal's statement. Perumal did not explain, but I presume he refers to the lack of blood after a certain point on the stairs, implying her heart was no longer beating. JMO.

So Reeva was still alive when Oscar said, "security, everything is fine." But dying alas.

Yes. What evidence do we have that OP did, in fact, make a Netcare call? Is it only from OP and Roux?

Oh and that *advertiser censored* evidence? Utterly irrelevant, unless they can prove he was "caught" and that contributed to an argument.

Oh thank you!

I thought the male lawyer was perhaps the most masculine female I had ever laid eyes on!!! I was so confused!

Oh hahaha :D

Reeva was screaming help before the first gunshot was ever fired and there are 4 witnesses that heard it. Oscar knew who was behind that door. IMO JMO

That's not clear yet. The first set of sounds have to be eliminated as the fatal shots, and that has not been done yet I don't think.

I believe the state is on record saying that their theory is that the sounds everybody heard around 3:17 were the fatal gunshots. If they also accept that the bat came after that there appears to be no ear witnesses to it, and no explanation for the first sounds that the doctor heard that sounded "the same". Surely there were sound tests conducted to see if this is reasonable. It is not intuitive that a bat on wood could be as loud as a gunshot, though they might share some qualities. It is something the state has to resolve or the whole scenario does favour Oscar's account.
It has come to be my opinion that the noises all the witnesses heard at 3.17 was indeed the bat. The state has not even hinted at the possibility that he used the bat BEFORE firing the shots. He called netcare for help, it's on record at 3.20. It would seemingly be impossible to shoot her, bat the door down and all the details inbetween in 3 minutes. It does not seem logical nor realistic to me in the least.

Which side of the bed OP usually slept on & which side he slept on the night Reeva was killed has been one THE most confusing aspects of this case.

According to his attorneys, OP usually slept on the right side of the bed (closest to the balcony doors). But on the night of Feb. 13/14 he slept on the left side (his legal team claim he did so due to a shoulder injury).

However, Reeva's personal belongings (overnight bag, slippers) were found on the left side of the bed, as well as OP's gun holster (the side his attorneys said OP slept on Feb. 13/14).

I'm not atthelake, but this cracked me up! :floorlaugh:

And yes - I, Sorrell Skye, am going through withdrawal, FWIW.

The facts of life. We get conditioned easily.

Before this will be over, maybe someone wil have an addiction/withdrawal center for this matter. Indeed SA has a "Carte Blanche" TV channel 24/7-- on air since the day before trial began, solely on the Pistorius matter. Someone tried to get me on.
