White Male, 45-60, 71" (5'11") and 197 lbs with brown eyes. Grey-Brown beard and hair, his hair was long and pulled back in a ponytail.

This case is held by Washoe County Med Examiner.

He was found on the N. bank of the Truckee River, to the East of Reno near the Mustang exit of I-80. He has been dead for a few days and was "unrecognizable." He was dressed casually and carried AA batteries, cigars, nail clippers, and chewing tobacco.

The casefile has a simple sketch, and:

Fingerprints
Status: Fingerprint information is available elsewhere
Dental
Status: Dental information / charting is available and entered
DNA
Status: Sample available - Not yet submitted

3 Rule-Outs:
PHILLIP BARRETT 1948 Nevada
James Bradford 1942 Arizona
Steven Condon 1960 Arizona

I'd like to get the opinion of my fellow sleuthers on this match:

Robert Freeh, missing from Reno, NV since 8/1/2005. Case held by Reno Police Dept.

Dental

DNA
Status: Initial inquiry underway
Fingerprint Information

What I like:
Height/Weight and age are nearly identical.
RF's hair is desc as brown and in a ponytail.
UID was found just outside of Reno, to the east. The river flows from west to east.

What I find iffy, although no deal-breakers IMO:
2 1/2 years passed from when RF went missing to when JD was found. RF's casefile says that he had bipolar disorder and left home without his medication.
RF had surgical scars not noted on JD, but several days in the rapid water can really damage a body. RF also wore wire-rimmed glasses and JD wasn't found with any eyewear.
There is no note of RF using chewing tobacco or cigars.

I meant to submit this match a few months ago, but I got sidetracked and I guess I hadn't. But I did email Rudy Bein today and will let you know what he says.

I heard back from the investigator and he told me the following:
1. This match would have to be via DNA
2. Mr. Freeh's DNA is pending in the system
3. Once the DNA is processed, the two should be compared automatically.

DNA Is still sample available, not yet submitted :(

His name is Terry Frankson. I see that this is another fingerprint ID from recent FBI additions. "Andrea Doe" was just identified the same way.

“The FBI’s recent NamUs system has added additional resources so new hits, or information, are being obtained on old cases despite having run the fingerprints through the system previously,” says Dr. Knight. “Medical examiners and coroners across the U.S. are obtaining identification on individuals from unidentified cold cases from 10, 20, or more years ago. This allows those cases to finally be closed, and those individuals to finally be laid to rest.”
