Breaking news

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

The airline said in a statement that flight MH370 disappeared at 02:40 local time on Saturday (18:40 GMT on Friday).

I'm praying the plane is found and people on the plane survive.

Why would the pilot say only "alright, goodnight?" If it truly was the pilot speaking, why would he possibly raise eyebrows by not doing the standard lingo, eg, (making this up): "roger, mh370, {stating location/frequency/whatever}, alright goodnight"?

If he was trying to hijack, he would do the standard closing to keep pretending things were BAU. If he was trying to alert ATC of a problem, he just had to say the code...unless he had a gun to his head and the hijacker warned him about saying the code.

This leads me toward the pilot not being the voice (for the moment).

I'm going with something kind of like AlwaysShocked's theory page 39, (ETA last thread) and that this was his voice. I also imagine they know by now if it's his voice or not?

The glaring difference being the man you saw was in a church and the men we are discussing are on a missing plane assumed hijacked.

BUT - given what we're hearing about security post 9/11 outside of US/EU - it sounds like people could be travelling under false IDs all the time (i.e. data not checked against INTERPOL database) - so these two could just as easily be asylum seekers in the wrong place at the wrong time. Apart from the person who booked the flight (Mr Ali), does anyone recall any reporting about links between the two?

From the discussion on CNN yesterday regarding this communication, I was under the impression it is believed to be the pilot's voice. I have not heard anything definitive however from an official source.

MOO

We know very little about the pilot and his personality/values. I definitely would not use the word 'merciful' to describe a pilot who stole a passenger plane and held all passengers hostage. JMO
No one knows for a fact the pilot stole this jet and held anyone hostage. His family is putting out information about his personality and values, but we have no way to know if it truly represents his character.

By the way, did anyone ever conclude the person/pilot spoke the last known words from the jet in English?

panthera;[/B]10341011]Of course that is correct. My speculation regarding the plane having landed somewhere (with the entire purpose being to have the airplane itself for some further use) is getting over 200 people off the aircraft, executing them in whatever manner, and disposing of them. Certainly Malaysia Airlines isn't the only carrier they could have hijacked, and certainly there are other flights that don't have as many on board. That is why it appears, in my opinion, the intent was not to safely land the airplane somewhere in order to have it for whatever future purpose.

MOO

I agree if the plane was taken for terrorist activity, all on board were executed either while on the plane, or shot as soon as it landed.

I do not agree that the plane could not be taken because of it's size. I would think that is exactly why it was taken, and once repainted, still can fly "under the radar".

As far as Malaysia Air, it may or may not be because of the flight pattern and lack of controlled and observed air space for a 777. Perhaps they have the most lack in security 777's. That I do not know.

AFAIR there was no link between them socially, the link was they were both using Ali to hook them up with flights, as he had been doing for years (presumably for asylum seekers), as the travel agent said

An al-Qaeda supergrass told a New York court last week that four to five Malaysian men had been planning to take control of a plane, using a bomb hidden in a shoe to blow open the cockpit door.

Security experts said the evidence from a convicted British terrorist was ''credible''.

The supergrass said that he had met the Malaysian jihadists - one of whom was a pilot - in Afghanistan and given them a shoe bomb to use to take control of an aircraft.

A British security source said: ''These spectaculars take a long time in the planning.''

Anyone want to start a news link thread? I don't have a lot of links, and since this will go on for a while, it would be helpful.

Keep in mind, some may alter or disappear over time, so if that interested, save a capture for a few years in whatever manner most feasible if that interested.

Right.
They didn't know each other before this flight.
I believe they were just asylum seekers.

I understand the suspicions that people have based on the two having stolen passports and the plane has now vanished. But I don't see it as suspicious. We have since learned that using stolen passports is common there, whether it's for nefarious reasons or not.

If I wanted to escape my country for whatever reason, and I didn't want anyone to find me, I'd use a stolen passport too.

Is it possible that the whole deviation, change in altitude etc was preprogrammed or remotely operated, beyond the control of the pilots?

"roger, mh370, {stating location/frequency/whatever}, alright goodnight"?

EI think the media picked it up for drama ie last two words In all likelihood he did what you said {stating location/frequency/whatever} and since it was handoff / final interaction with them THEN said alright goodnight"?

IIRC, it was Mary Schiavo who said she was certain that Malaysian officials would have done this (verified the voice). She said there is very valid, reliable technology for pilot voice identification.

But of course, we don't know for sure what they determined, it's only by inference since they're now focused on the cockpit.

Yes. But let's not even go there... It's so far into the realms of conspiracy land that it's crazy town...

And one for maps & timeline:

Malaysia's national police chief, Inspector-General Khalid Abu Bakar, identified one of the passengers as 19-year-old Pouria Nourmohammadi Mehrdad. ~Snip~ the second man was also an Iranian, Delavar Seyed Mohammedreza.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Two passengers who boarded missing Malaysia Airlines 3786.KU +2.13% Flight 370 with stolen passports, stirring speculation over terrorism, were unlikely to have any militant links, law-enforcement officials said.

This article was written several days ago. We don't know what, if anything, has come out of inquiries about the two men since that time. However, when our Rep. Peter King has reservations about them knowing he is privy to much information being he is chairman of the House Sub-Committee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence and a former chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security then we should listen.

The Interpol has identified him as Iranian Delavar Seyed Mohammad Reza, 29.
