Ashley Moran had driven to a local park and was seen walking alone at 11:00 PM on 3/14/14. She was found murdered the next morning, laying near the basketball court. She had no valuables or purse when found. Her car was removed from the area by LE after her body was found. She died from stab wounds. During autopsy it was discovered she was in early pregnancy.

At first LE was trying to talk to 2 people, but the latest has no more on that. No motive is known, but pregnancy could have put her at risk. She did not live near the park. LE is still trying to determine who she was last with.

Obregon Park, bordered by Richard Road and San Clemente Street, was described as a popular destination in the neighborhood, with neighbors gathering on weekends with their dogs and kids practicing soccer and playing basketball.

The body of Moran, 21, a Santa Paula resident, was partially concealed by bushes on a steep slope when it was found at about 8:30 a.m. by an area resident walking his dog.

The autopsy found she was in the “very early, early stages of pregnancy,” said SPPD Lt. Ish Cordero, who noted the cause of death was from blunt force trauma to the upper body and head as well as stab wounds to the neck.

The last post I made above this one was a different woman murdered, not Ashley. There are still no suspects in Ashley's murder. It sounds personal and her body was partially hidden.

A weapon was used in the attack that investigator’s believe occurred at the park after about 10 p.m. Friday, March 14 when a witness reported seeing a car in the area.

There are “no clear suspects at this time” and interviews are continuing with family members and friends of Moran and leads being developed.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the SPPD Investigations Unit at (805) 525-4474

Nice article with picture of Ashley and interviews with family.

Here is a strange connection: 2 Facebook friends, both named Ashley are murdered recently in different parks.

32-year-old Yajayra Lizette Dominguez is charged with the death of 21-year-old Ashley Calanche of Santa Paula. Dominguez was caught after a standoff with police where she threatened to kill herself. Calanche was fatally shot in Mill Park in the 700 block of North Ojai Road on September 27, 2013. The incident occurred just blocks from Calanche’s home.

Calanche was a Facebook friend of Ashley Moran, who was found dead in Obregon Park March 15; also 21 years old, Moran was in the early stages of pregnancy when her body was found near the park’s basketball court. She had suffered a beating and had puncture wounds to her neck. LE still investigating her murder.

Thanks, OkieGranny. Looks like he is smiling in his booking photo. From your link... known Santa Paula gang member.

Gang member, yeah. Takes a real tough guy to stab a young, pregnant girl. I wonder if he knew she was pregnant.

I wondered why a young girl would go for a walk in a park at 11 pm at night. Maybe she was meeting him.

I am so glad to see this arrest. I am sick of pregnant women being slaughtered by their husbands/boyfriends. :furious:

Santa Paula is a sleepy, rustic little town. It is only an hour away and we have gone there for hiking and sightseeing. Makes me sad to think of this poor girl and her baby being stabbed in the local park!

There is a LOT of gang activity there though. Maybe because it is so small and sleepy? What an unnecessary tragedy.

From April 2015:

Ashley, 21, who had dreams of becoming a medical assistant and was in the very early stages of a pregnancy, was bludgeoned to death; puncture wounds were also found on her body that had been concealed on a sloping hillside in some brush...

Her boyfriend, 18-year-old Antonio “Anthony” Magana, a documented gang associate, was arrested for suspicion of murder almost five months to the day that Ashley’s body was found; he remains in Ventura County Jail with bail set at $1 million while he awaits trial.

SPPD Commander Ish Cordero said it is likely Magana killed Ashley to keep her pregnancy secret from another girlfriend that he fathered a child with, a relationship he told Ashley did not exist.

What a sick $&^&&, I guess it's no secret now. All this $#!T for nothing. Leaving her children to suffer.

Ashley did not have children, although she was pregnant when murdered. Ashley's mother had 8 children. The killer had one child by another woman (that we know of).

Judge rules against Santa Paula man's motion to throw out murder charges

http://www.vcstar.com/story/news/2017/08/24/judge-rules-against-santa-paula-mans-motion-throw-out-murder-charges/598761001/

In his motion challenging a preliminary hearing decision in February, defense attorney William Haney said Judge Barry Taylor did not have sufficient basis to hold Magana on the murder counts because Magana is only facing charges based on a statement provided solely by prosecution witness, Alex Torres.

Worley on Thursday tentatively denied the defense motion but said he would review additional documents regarding Torres' immunity agreement.
