A pilot is dead and the two teen girls who were his passengers are hospitalized after a plane crash in Clearwater early this morning.
The Pinellas County Sheriffs Office said the single-engine plane was en route to St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport from Chicago with three on board when it crashed about 4 a.m. on McMullen-Booth Road, just north of Union Street.
The sheriffs office identified the deceased pilot as Jeffrey Bronken, 53, of 2120 Red Oak Drive, Round Lake, Ill.
Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw said the two girls, Katherine Bronken, 15, and Keyana Linbo, 15, also from Round Lake, Ill., were transported to St. Josephs Hospital in Tampa, one as a trauma alert.
