On October 18, 1990, a husband and wife discovered the body of Fiona Burns at a truck parking bay between Kaniva and Bordertown, about 1.6 kilometres from the South Australian border.

The couple notified police who found the body of John Lee about 50 metres away a short time later.

FOR 25 years, Barbie McCarthy has wondered if anyone would ever be held accountable for the stabbing murder of her sister. This week gave her hope.

As she read news of the breakthrough in the double murder of mother and daughter Karlie Jade-Stevenson and Khandalyce Pearce, Mrs McCarthy was reminded that even the smallest tip can help unravel a mystery.

A call to Crimestoppers helped uncover the two victims’ identities, giving investigators their best chance at solving a horrific double murder.

This month is the 25th anniversary of another shocking double killing: Mrs McCarthy’s sister Fiona Burns and her friend John Lee, who were stabbed to death as they hitchhiked across the South Australia-Victoria border.
