Eleven members of a single Norfolk family have been jailed for a total of 60 years for abducting and torturing a pregnant woman and her partner. The judge said they thought they 'were above the law'. One of the attackers filmed the attack, which was later used as evidence in their prosecution. Police called it 'horrific'.
The victims were held separately and subject to severe, sustained beatings during which the woman feared she would lose her baby.
They'd become convinced the couple had murdered the matriarch of the family, 75 year old Gertrude Frankham who died December 2012. She was the widow of a prominent gipsy rights campaigner.
No suspicious circumstances were found when Mrs Frankham originally died, police also exhumed her body for a second inquest, and family arranged a third, independent one. None of them have found any evidence of third party involvement and Mrs Frankham's death is still classified as a natural one.
