A civilian dog has helped locate a body 40 feet up a tree on a golf course in Bournemouth, after finding an arm on the floor. But other bones were actually discovered months ago by a member of the public, who simply took them home and failed to report them.

When the man, in his 40s, saw police combing the woods, he handed over 'two objects' wrapped in a clear plastic bag. He is now 'not sure he did the right thing' and declined to comment further. Sniffer dogs eventually located the body in the tree, which Dorset police believe has been there at least two years. They don't believe there are any suspicious circumstances, at this stage.

Identification has not been determined. A post mortem has been held and an inquest is pending.

Were the bones he took identifiable as obvious human bones? I mean, to a layman's casual glance?

If he took off with an obvious human skull it would be strange to say the least but some other bones could be taken for animal parts.

I don't know, but he obviously found them interesting enough to take them home, and suspicious enough that as soon as he saw police searching the woods, months later, he went straight there and handed them in, so......

If he did know they were human bones, it will make the third case I've seen recently of a person finding human remains and not notifying authorities. I just find it unbelievable.

The remains in the tree have been identified as 21 year-old Lithuanian citizen Jurij Sliachtecov, missing since May 2011. His next of kin have been informed and his death is not thought to be suspicious.

Here was a missing appeal for him, from 2012.

And his FB has a missing poster too.

Rest in peace, Jurij. My condolences to his loved ones.
