The mother's name is Megan McKeon, and she had left her young boy at their cabin in Steamboat Springs, Colorado on March 26th to go to work at a supermarket. However she didn't return until the next morning, and she found her son lying on his back, with his eyes open, with no signs of life.

Later on it was revealed that the home the mother and son were living in was absolutely filthy, with human waste lying around, and food all over the ground.

Oh what a doll he was.

She had someone she could have called to watch him!!

Austin’s grandmother, Charity O’Konski, is distraught over what happened to her grandson.

“We’re never going to have little Austin back again,” said O’Konski. “But for his justice and all the family that loved him, she needs to pay for what she did.”

“All she had to do was call me. There’s no if, ands or buts to what happened, it’s her fault no matter what happened. She is accountable for that baby,” said O’Konski. “Nothing is ever going to be enough, because he will never come back to us but she took his life away and the only way to take her life away is to let her sit behind those bars and let her think about what she did.”

giagreen, they don't exactly know how he died. They are awaiting toxicology reports.

She left him overnight, by himself and when she came home the next morning he was lying on his back, with his eyes open, dead.

I can't. Omg I can't even. Gotta stay away from this thread! 20 fricken times? TWENTY TIMES????? How does anyone get to keep their child after leaving them 20+ times alone? HOW? This BBBBB needs the book thrown at her!

You guys, it's far worse than we even knew. I can't see the text here, but at least you can read the comments and they tell a bit of the story.

I'm not sure if we can link the facebook pages of media? Check out Steamboat Pilot & Today's April 15th post. Unreal.

If you complete the survey on the newspaper's website you can read the full article. Apparently she left the child alone for 4 days!

The affidavit does not state a suspected cause of death, other than a medical examiner’s preliminary finding that Austin did not die of natural causes. ... they are still waiting for toxicology test results.

And this:
“McKeon described her situation to her boyfriend as being ‘really, really serious,’ and said she was going to be in here (jail) a really, really long time.’ During their conversation McKeon also said, ‘It’s all my fault, it’s my fault that Austin’s dead, it’s my (expletive) fault.’ Her boyfriend asked her, ‘What are you telling me?’ Her reply was, ‘It was a (expletive) accident, I’m taking the fall for it. I’m going to be in jail for a long time.’”

Don't know if it is relevant, but Austin's father is a registered sex offender. Here is an article about him: http://www.steamboattoday.com/news/2013/sep/06/steamboat-springs-man-must-register-sex-offender/

The Steamboat Pilot reported that Austin Davis may have been home alone for four days before he died, according to what Megan McKeon’s boyfriend told police.

I wouldn't leave my pets alone for 24 hours unattended, never mind FOUR DAYS!!! What was this mother thinking over the course of those FOUR DAYS while her helpless toddler was alone in a campground cabin? I can't even imagine the terror and confusion this poor little guy suffered :(

It now is thought that Austin might have been left alone for about 92 hours in a cabin at Steamboat Campground. That is based on an interview police did with McKeon’s boyfriend, Brian Jordan, who McKeon had been staying with in Dream Island Plaza.

no words. I thought it was heinous when I started the thread based on the 24 hour info. But four days???? That poor baby. Scared, alone, no one there to care for him. Just left to his own devices, to die, alone, while mommy was busy lining up her next new relationship. Jesus Wept.

one good decision followed by the next. This gal bats 1000 (sarcasm)

McKeon told police that when she arrived at her home the morning of March 27, she got a call from Austin’s father, Tyler Davis, who was calling from Routt County Jail, where he was awaiting sentencing related to not registering as a sex offender.

McKeon told police Davis wanted to know how his son was, and she rolled Austin over and discovered he was not breathing. She told police she then took him to the campground showers and ran cold water on him because she thought it would “shock” him into breathing again.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering what 'Mom' left for Austin to eat for 4 days, here you go:

McKeon said she put on a movie and left out a Lunchable snack, crackers and a bag of cheese popcorn. When asked what Austin was supposed to drink, McKeon said she left out a juice carton.

Inside the cabin with no running water or bathroom, police found two empty half-gallon containers of juice and full and empty bottles of pop
.

She didn't even check on him when she came home before a phone call reminded her?

yes, he apparently lay there face down even after she was home til his father called from jail asking about his wellbeing.

It was only THEN she thought to turn him over and was shocked to find him dead

:burn:

This certainly makes me wonder if Austin wasn't dead before she left.

(RSBM)

Three counts of misdemeanor child abuse were dropped, according to the NYDN:

(Snip)

But those charges, which would have only carried a maximum sentence of 42 months if convicted, were then sensationally dropped.

In a dramatic twist, the District Attorney said he now intended to charge her with the more serious crime of child abuse resulting in death. Her bond was set at $250,000.

-------

I hope they put her under the jail.

Good. Thank god they are charging her with more. I wish it was murder. To me its murder to leave a 3 year old home alone for days. What did she think was gonna happen!?!?!?!? I'd love slap this woman.
