A man who begged to be locked up after pleading guilty to raping a woman as she left a dance class has removed his electronic tracking anklet and is believed to be on the loose in Sydney.

Daniel McQuilton, 27, was sentenced to five years and three months jail in 2009 over the random attack on a woman as she left a dance studio in Albury one winter evening the year before.

Police say McQuilton's last known location was Oxford Square in Darlinghurst.

At around 4:15pm on Wednesday, an alarm alerted Corrective Services personnel that his tracking device had been removed.

It was found in Sydney CBD

Police say McQuilton is dangerous and should not be approached, but anyone who sees him should call Triple-0

17th April, 2014 - about an hour ago...

Police are currently searching for a man who has breached a supervision order by removing his electronic monitoring device.

About 4.15 pm on Wednesday 16 April 2014 Corrective Services NSW officers electronically tracking Daniel McQuilton received an alarm that indicated he may have removed his tracking anklet.

Corrective Services enquiries confirmed McQuilton had deviated from his approved schedule of movements and discarded his tracking equipment – both being breaches of the terms of his court-ordered Extended Supervision Order.

McQuilton’s last known location was Oxford Square in Darlinghurst.

Corrective Services informed Eastern Beaches police shortly after 5pm that McQuilton had breached the order. His anklet has since been recovered in Sydney’s CBD.

Police are now searching for 27-year-old McQuilton. He is described as being 186cms tall, of medium build, with short blonde hair, short goatee beard and green eyes.

He is believed to be travelling in a stolen silver coloured Mitsubishi Lancer with NSW registration VWX-357.

He was last seen in the vicinity of West Street, Petersham.

Police consider McQuilton to be dangerous and are advising members of the public not to approach him, but instead to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/.

And here is the article about the original crime and his guilty plea.

It said the woman struggled and McQuilton punched her once to the head area and then sexually assaulted her.

The statement alleges the woman fell to the ground and McQuilton kneed her once in the face before she ran away. McQuilton turned himself in to police five days later.
