"In the early morning hours on March 4, 1993, a paper deliveryman called 9-1-1 to report an apartment fire in the 8700 block of Granville Street. When firefighters arrived, they found a body inside the burned-out apartment.

The deceased was identified as Jillian Fuller and the police investigation quickly revealed she died as the result of an assault and that the fire appeared to have been deliberately set to cover up her murder.

Jillian Fuller was only 28 years old when she died. She was last seen leaving the Fraser Arms Hotel at half past midnight and headed downstairs to the Rock Cellar Pub between 1:30 and 1:40 a.m., just hours before her death. A waitress saw Jillian, wearing a pink sweater with red trim and carrying a pink coloured book, leave with a man.

Jillian was an accomplished young woman, described by those who knew her as outgoing, compassionate and very intelligent. She once ranked 23rd among Canadian women outdoor speed skaters. She studied French, played the piano and was a competitive runner. Jillian lived alone, and the likelihood is that she knew her murderer, as there were no signs of forced entry to her apartment.

Jillian’s family still struggles with their grief. In March of 2013, following the 20-year anniversary of Jillian’s death, her sister Jane wrote a letter explaining how the murder still affects their family:

“The toll that my sister’s death has caused my family over the last twenty years is truly immeasurable. It cast a dark cloud on our family that has never been lifted. Her loss has left a deep wound in all our lives, and the fact that her killer was never found means that wound will always be unhealed.”

  • Vancouver police are seeking information on a cold case involving the daughter of a retired Vancouver lawyer, which has eluded them for more than 20 years.

“Every couple of years we review these cases with a fresh set of eyes,” said Vancouver Police Department media officer Sgt. Randy Fincham, adding it is now the 20th anniversary since the murder in South Vancouver’s Marpole area occurred. The hope is someone will remember something about the night 28-year-old Jillian Blatchford Fuller, daughter of retired lawyer George Fuller, left the Fraser Arms Hotel March 4, 1993.
Only hours later, firefighters were called out at 5 a.m. to a fire at 8770 Granville St. where they discovered the Fuller’s slain body in her apartment. Police investigators found she had been assaulted and the fire used to cover the homicide. Police are not revealing the details of how she died. There were no signs of forced entry to the apartment.
The hotel is located at 1450 S.W. Marine Dr., just east of Granville and the Arthur Laing Bridge, en route to the Vancouver International Airport. The 50-year-old hotel, especially the pub and restaurant, was a popular gathering spot for a wide clientele as it offered good food and drinks at reasonable prices. The hotel attracted locals from the mixed-use area near the Fraser River that included mill workers, car salesmen, commercial shops, and residents from the area’s higher-end homes and multi-family apartments. The hotel also is on a main arterial to the University of British Columbia and the Musqueam reserve.
Vancouver police, at the time of the murder, questioned several individuals who may have been considered suspect, but no charges were ever laid. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver homicide department at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers
.

The police have never revealed how she died. Saying it was an assault is a broad term that could mean a few different things. She obviously felt comfortable enough with the killer to bring him home. However, alcohol most likely was involved and you let down your guard, so odds are she may have only gotten to "know" him that night. Maybe she saw him around in passing at best, which makes you wonder WHERE she saw him previously as I doubt it was at the pub. The anonymous letter is interesting and only wish we knew what it had said. They obviously believed it to be pertinent as they have never released full details.

The pub/hotel was frequented by regulars as well as those passing by. He obviously wasn't a regular as they would have known him. Obviously someone knows what happened and why. The letter proves this. The fire was a cover-up and eliminated evidence. 25 years later and you have to wonder what the DNA evidence left behind shows. Someone ALWAYS knows ....

I'm checking in here to see if there's been any new updates.

My heart is with Ms. Fuller's loved ones.

The DNA might have been destroyed in the fire.
