This is horrific. These poor children and what they must have went through.
So sad.

Richmond Police on scene have confirmed that two juveniles, under the age of 13 were assaulted, one who succumbed to his injuries. The other has been taken to the hospital.

How devastating for that poor girl. She will always have that sense of burden over losing her brother and his sacrifice for her. What a young hero. RIP young man. And my prayers go out to the sweet girl and her healing. :rose:

Suspect has changed from a white male to a black teenager. Apparently, he threaten the little girl into given a false description. Even sadder. Children killing our children. Keep your kids in sight at all times. I know we don't let our almost 4 year out of ours EVER!!

So sad. He was brave and loyal and was killed because of that. I hope what the girl takes from that is that she was deeply loved by her brother and that she was defended by a champion. A champion who felt she was worth being saved.

I hope police got some physical evidence or other eyewitnesses statements on the suspect. And given the alleged crimes, quite likely the physical evidence was left at the scene.
Considering how drastically description given by the child victim changed.

Police have since apprehended the suspect, who turned out to be a black teenager. Initially, the victim described her assailant as a white man with scraggly facial hair, the local station WWBT reported.

Investigators later determined that the suspect had threatened to kill the 12-year-old girl if she provided police with accurate information about him.

He suffered severe head trauma. Neighbors said a brick was the weapon and he has been charged with murder and strangulation.

I'm just 5 miles east of the city in Varina. And you're right the community is shaken. This has touched us all. Those poor babies. I can't even comment without tears.

Pastor Ted Hughey, who helped organize the vigil, was shocked that after preaching unity, his message fell on a few deaf ears.

"I'm a little disturbed over it because I was praying and hoping that because of the vigil it would give people the mind set that it is not really necessary to commit violence," he said.

Oh my gosh. This just breaks my heart. Such a sweet little boy, courageously protecting his older sister. His memory will always live on, and his sister will always know just how much her darling little brother loved her. An absolute tragedy.

I hope they lock this up for life. He tried to rape a child, then threatened to kill her, AND killed her younger brother. He's 16, he knew far better.

There were some heated moments outside a Richmond court Monday after a hearing in the case of the eight-year-old who died while saving his sister from a sexual assault. The teen accused of attacking Marty Cobb and his sister appeared in court for his arraignment Monday morning.

We are learning more about her son from the order, which closed Monday's hearing. The clerk of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations explains while the defendant is old enough to have an open hearing, the judge is allowed to close it because the teen has "not been adjudicated delinquent of a felony."

The counts he is facing now are felonies. Police have charged the 16-year-old with murder in the death of Marty Cobb and strangulation in the assault of his sister.

& This is just about as sick as it could possibly get but it definitely explains a lot:

The children's mother released more details Monday about exactly what went down on Brandon Road Thursday night. Sharain Spruill says the 16-year-old attacker is the one who actually carried the bloodied girl home and she was crying when she broke the horrific news that her little brother had been killed. According to Spruill, the teen suspect blamed someone else for what happened and told her it was a white man.

Prosecutors also say they are possibly expecting more charges to be placed and we should know more information about that before the next hearing.

The defendant is still in custody at the city's juvenile detention center.
