Neighbor of missing woman says he's 'in limbo' after questioning -

Charleston County sheriff's deputies are searching for a 77-year-old woman, Julia Ann Mudgett of Toogoodoo Road in Hollywood, who hasn't been seen since Sunday. According to investigators, Mudgett's vehicle, a burgundy 2002 Hyundai Elentra, is also missing.

A Hollywood man who says he was taken in for questioning about a missing neighbor says his "whole world is upside down." The neighbor was not arrested and was released by officials after questioning. But he says investigators confiscated two cars, his phone, clothes and an old shotgun.

The man's daughter says investigators showed up at her door wanting to speak with her father about Mudgett's disappearance, and he told told them he thought he last saw her in her yard Sunday, but wasn't sure. The woman said her father didn't personally know Mudgett and said he only saw her when she would take walks down the road.

But she says because her father may have been the last-known person to see Mudgett before she was reported missing, things took a turn and she felt like her home turned into a crime scene. She says investigators also confiscated her phone. Her father cooperated with police, she says.

What an odd story. Does this man have a criminal past that made LE feel they needed to do that? Usually they are slow to react without a witness IMO!

This is actually a SC case and not FL. Nothing new at this point...

I didn't even notice the FL part, because I know where that area is. This is coastal SC. I have a nephew who lives near there and a niece not too far away. Geesh, the elderly are becoming prey, much like teen girls!

Deputies: Search for missing woman continues, foul play not ruled out -

HOLLYWOOD, SC (WCSC) -
Charleston County deputies say they have collected evidence from her home, including some blood evidence, and are not ruling out foul play in the Hollywood woman's disappearance. Julia Ann Mudgett, 77, was reported missing on Tuesday. The case continues to be investigated as a missing person case, deputies say, but no suspects have been identified. A friend of Mudgett told deputies she spotted signs of some kind of struggle at Mudgett's home.

Signs of a struggle and some blood found and LE hasn't ruled out foul play. Hmmm... Very astute.

Search continues for missing Hollywood woman -

HOLLYWOOD, SC -
Irene Green is missing two big things in her life: her best friend and the reasons why that friend disappeared. "She's a beautiful, beautiful soul and I have no answers," Green said. But when Green pulled up to the home, she noticed something was wrong.

Mudgett's dog was wandering around in the front yard, just feet away from a broken window. When Green went into the home, she found Mudgett's two other dogs but no sign of her best friend. "I started calling her and walked all throughout the house and there was blood on the walls, so I figured maybe she had fallen," she said.

But Green quickly realized that couldn't have been the case. Mudgett's car was missing and the friend noticed that Mudgett's oxygen tanks were still running. Green said Mudgett can't survive five minutes without the assistance of oxygen.

That is so sad. This poor woman had enough problems and was a weak prey for somebody. I haven't seen anything from family, just friends. I wonder if she had anybody else?

Nothing new here? Is anyone looking for this poor lady? I hope she will be found soon. It doesn't look good for her.

Hmmm 3 dogs.... how close is the nearest neighbor? No one heard a window being broken, or dogs barking?? Granted my neighbors might not pay attention to my dogs barking, but with a struggle inside the home, someone wasn't afraid of those dogs. Must be known to the dear lady. I can't imagine a stranger wouldn't have harmed the dogs, locked them in a room, or something. But to come into her home, one dog managed to get outside, and two others left in the home. Wonder what breed of dogs?

And don't be making me have nightmares!! I feel my dogs are my first line of defense. I can't have that idea smashed to smitherines!

Those same friends who reported her missing say they fear the worst because the 77-year-old woman needed oxygen to survive.
They say she never left home without her oxygen tank or her three dogs. The dogs and the oxygen were still in her home when Green visited.
"She would have never gone and left her dogs, I know that for sure," said Meeks.

"They came over here with the detectives and got a search warrant for the house, went through all of our belongings, and took him for questioning," the woman said. "They took towels and blankets and stuff because he had done a load of laundry so they wanted to test all that."

However, when they checked on her Tuesday, they found the front door window shattered and what they said was an "obvious sign of a struggle." CCSO Major Eric Watson said the shattered glass was consistent with someone trying to enter the home.

Mudgett and her car were gone, and her three dogs were left there alone.

Mudgett lives alone in her mobile home on Toogoodoo Road, with family out of state, Gordon says.

Mudgett's next door neighbor was taken in for questioning, and many of his belongings were confiscated. He's been released, but authorities have yet to say if he has been cleared in the investigation.

Church members like James Freston brought memories they have of the woman who lived in Hollywood.
“Ten days ago today she wrote me a four-page letter, and it was the sweetest letter I had ever been written,” said Freston. “It read in part ‘No matter how hard your day may seem, our heavenly father has not forgotten us, in fact, he loves us, he loves you, with an infinite heart.’”

Freston says Mudgett sat in the same seat every Sunday, today church members left the seat empty in her honor.
“She usually sits in that same corner in the back, and usually has a couple of guests of with her,” said Chris Cooper, a member of the church and friend of Mudgett. “Seeing that she is gone leaves a hole, and we definitely have a hole here without Julia.”

I can't say that this surprises me...sadly.

This breaks my heart. This poor woman.
I wish we knew more about the neighbor.

So sad and frightening. Why would somebody harm an elderly woman?

There was a homicide of another 70-year-old woman in Bluffton, SC. That is close to where her car was found. http://www.wnct.com/story/25506607/bluffton-police-investigating-elderly-womans-death-as-homicide And this article says this might be linked to another cased in South Carolina: http://www.islandpacket.com/2014/05/13/3108220/investigation-into-suspicious.html?sp=/99/257/
