The death of a 5-year-old at a Forsyth home this week has been ruled a homicide.
That's according to GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang.
She said an autopsy found that Heaven Woods died from a blunt-force trauma to the abdomen.
The child also had "multiple other injuries, new and old," the release says.
Lang also said that the girl's mother, Amanda Hendrickson, had a "history" with the state Division of Family and Children Services in Floyd County. Lang would not describe that history, saying it was part of their investigation.
A Forsyth police report says EMTs on the scene advised police that "the child had visible signs of possible abuse" but does not describe them.
It says Amanda Hendrickson told police that her child had been saying with a friend in Rome and was sick when she came home Monday night.
