Aguilar was 15 years old when he ran away in July 2014 and today marks his 17th birthday.
"We're always going to be looking for you. Please come back," his mother said in Spanish. "We don't see happiness here," his father said. "Everyone needs you. Everyone loves you. We're never going to forget you. We're going to do whatever it takes to find you."
Leon County Sheriff's Detectives say Aguilar disappeared with only his bike and the clothes on his back and intentionally left his cell phone behind.

His charcoal drawings of race cars still lie on his desk. His plaid shirts still hang in his closet. And the new pair of sneakers that got him in trouble still sit unworn in a shoe box on his dresser.
Two years after Ivan Aguilar ran away from home, his room remains frozen in time.
Its been extremely sad and very difficult, said his mom, Emma Gutierrez, who spoke through an interpreter, Leon County Detective Terry Howard. Even though its been two years, every day is a struggle.

Investigators say any number of things could have happened to Ivan. He could have gotten lost in the woods or picked up along the side of the road. He could have joined a work crew of some kind or fallen victim to human trafficking.
He could have ended up in a different city, said LCSO Lt. Tony Drzewiecki. Theres all sorts of exploitation that can occur. With runaways, thats one of the things we have to worry about.
