JOHNSON VALLEY: Mentally disabled woman reported missing -

The public’s help is being sought in finding a missing developmentally disabled woman who walked away from her home in the High Desert community of Johnson Valley. Renée Dusko, 58, left her home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, and may be headed toward Yucca Valley, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. She was described as white, 5-foot-3 and 172 pounds with brown-and-gray hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a faded gray-and-green T-shirt and either red or green shorts.

Dusko, who is mentally challenged, was described by her cousin, Fred Jackson, as very likable and “somewhat of a savant.”

She lived in Yucca Valley with her 93-year-old mother, but the family decided it would be in the best interest of both women to move Dusko to Colorado with Jackson... The week Dusko was scheduled to leave, she attempted to run away three times. Twice, Dusko was found and brought back home, but police were unsuccessful the third and final time...

He also recalls authorities organizing a search party and using a helicopter in an effort to find Dusko, but nothing ever turned up... While the case is still open and active, no new updates have been reported. Jackson and the rest of Dusko’s family are still hoping she can safely be found and brought home.
