GUILTY NY - Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, stabbed to death in NYC elevator, 12 June 2014

So we have a serial stabber in NYC. Fantastic.

Those poor babies.

How horrible!! This guy must be out of his mind to do something like that! These were pretty young kids and I don't think I would have let them take the elevator by themselves. I would have escorted them to the other apartment for the ice cream. But I do not know these apartments and I am sure their parents never anticipated some psycho doing such a horrendous thing to their children! They need to catch this guy ASAP!

Oh my, what a beautiful little boy. :rose:

I agree with you. I would have escorted them as well at this age while giving an explanation on stranger danger and never to go without adult supervision.

and they were playing outside with no supervision - why? why? why? :stormingmad:

The children had been playing outside unsupervised
when they went inside to get the ice cream and the man cornered them in the elevator, police said. After the incident, the suspect fled on foot and left behind the knife.

Both children were taking an elevator in a public housing complex upstairs to Prince's home to get ice cream, police said. In the elevator, an unidentified man in his 20s stabbed each youngster multiple times with a steak knife, according to police.

Police note that someone fatally stabbed an 18-year-old woman on Friday not far from Monday's stabbings.

"The two are indeed close together (in geographical proximity)
, however, the investigation is ongoing," Officer George Tsourovakas said.

"“With the backpack on my back, I just walked to the school,” the heartbroken dad said. “I talked to him. I acted like he was there.”
Avitto, 56, said he was not ready to let his P.J. go."

this is heart breaking..

I don't know about this particular place but a lot of apts have courtyards where kids will play and their parents can see them from the window.

This is not a parents fault. Lets put the blame where it belongs.. on the murderer.

tragic and random and heartbreaking.

With all the surveillance, don't they have videos or photos of the suspect?

The article states this took place in a public housing complex so it is doubtful there were sufficient surveillance cameras around and probably not the safest area to let young kids play outside unsupervised. I live in the suburbs of Washington state and I would not let my young children play unsupervised in my front yard. I've seen too many cases where something has happened to a child that was unsupervised. And of course the blame lies with the murderer but because of people like this running around, it is best to take extra precautions to keep your kids as safe as you possibly can. But this guy sounds crazy enough that even if an adult had been with the children, he probably would have stabbed that person too!

What a gorgeous boy. RIP Sweet man. We owed you so much more than this. :rose:

Praying for the sweet Mikayla's recovery.

Praying for PJ's family and the young woman's family.

She was just killed two days earlier on Friday?

I hope everyone in that neighborhod is taking precautions.

Please catch him fast!

IT has become absolutely ridiculous that we put our children not being safe on the parents.

Should we start listing the parents of murdered kids and say they are to blame because they were letting their children be children?

Samantha Runyon
Adam Walsh
Etan Patz
Leiby Kletzky

The list goes on and on.. All these kids were being kids. Nothing more. They did not deserve to die and there is only one person to blame. The person who grabbed them and killed them.
