Adam Moore-Duncan was arrested and charged Wednesday with tampering with evidence in the case of 23-year-old Christopher Cray, who was last seen on May 20 near the Schnucks on Missouri Boulevard. Moore-Duncan's bond was set at $150,000.

25-year-old Richard Love was arrested and charged last week with tampering with a witness. According to court documents, Love sent a text message to a witness in the disappearance and homicide of Christopher Cray. The text said the witness was going to die like the first "rat." The text read, "u rat u gon die like the first rat did in a mousetrap."

In the court documents, a Jefferson City Police officer said the text message was meant to scare the witness from cooperating with the police during the investigation. Police said the investigation has revealed Christopher Cray was accused with cooperating with the police and causing the arrest of an individual associate with Richard Love.

Jefferson City police are searching the local landfill in their investigation into the disappearance of Christopher Cray.

Police officially confirmed in a news release Thursday night that they have been "working with Allied Waste to pursue leads at their landfill site that may reveal more information" about the disappearance of the 23-year-old Jefferson City man. "We are not ruling out other potential locations for future searches, nor are we focusing solely on any one single source of information," JCPD Capt. Doug Shoemaker stated in the release.

Cadaver dogs have been aiding searchers, who have recovered "several items" related to the case at the landfill. Shoemaker would not say what those items are.

Witness describes last time seeing missing man
Christopher Cray stayed at witness' home just before disappearing May 20th.

Investigators are still searching a Jefferson City landfill for the body of a man who has been missing since last month. Last week, Richard Love was arrested for sending a threatening text message to a witness who saw Christopher Cray hours before his disappearance. Erin Starke told ABC 17 News Cray and his fiance and kids spent the night at her home on the night of May 20th. Police said Cray was last seen at Schnuck's, but Starke said right before he went to the store he was at her house.

Starke said she filed an affidavit Monday saying her and Richard Love, one of the key suspects in the homicide case, were in a relationship at the time of the arrest.

She said prior to him being arrested, he did apologize for his threatening text messages, which police cite as the reason for his arrest.

Jefferson City Police said they will continue to search the landfill regardless of the weather conditions.

Police issued a press release Tuesday afternoon saying, "Based on investigative efforts and information received over the course of this investigation along with further intelligence obtained over the past several days during our search of the Allied Waste landfill, the Jefferson City Police Department is currently ruling this investigation a homicide investigation until such time as we can gain evidence to the contrary.

The release went on to say ,"While we were initially and still some degree optimistic that we would find Mr. Cray safe, all evidence and testimony leads us to believe that those chances are increasingly slim."

According to court documents filed last Thursday and released Tuesday, Moore-Duncan and another suspect took a trash bin from a home on 403 Boonville Road and were seen on surveillance video at the landfill two days after Cray went missing, on the morning of May 22.

The probable cause statement said the body was placed in a blue trash bin and was disposed of at the customer self-serve drop off at the landfill. The investigation revealed that trash bin was reported missing from 403 Boonville Road.

The other suspect who went to the landfill with Moore-Duncan claimed they didn't know there was a body in the trash bin.

Cray has not been found. Shoemaker said there is no new information regarding the case but it is still ruled an open investigation.

"Nothing really new at all to release on it, but it is an unsolved murder as it stands," Shoemaker said.

Details of Disappearance
Cray was last seen near the Schnucks supermarket in the 1800 block of Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 20, 2014. He was driving a white Ford Crown Victoria at the time. He has never been heard from again, and his car was found abandoned on May 26.

Cray has prior convictions for misdemeanor drug possession and property damage. His family stated it's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. He left behind three children, and his fiancee gave birth to his child a few weeks after his disappearance.

Investigators believe Cray was the victim of a homicide. Adam Moore-Duncan was charged with evidence tampering after he allegedly took a body, presumably Cray's, in a trash cart to Jefferson City's Allied Waste landfill and disposed of it on May 22. Richard Love was charged with tampering with a witness after he allegedly threatened to harm a person in mid-June 2014 if that person told authorities what they knew about the investigation into Cray's presumed murder.

Photos of both men are posted with this case summary. The charges against them were eventually dropped, but Love was sentenced to five years in prison in a drug case.

Cray was allegedly cooperating with police in another investigation, and the information he provided caused an individual associated with Love to be arrested. Love referred to Cray as a "rat" and investigators believe this may have been the motive behind his murder.

Authorities searched the landfill for Cray's body, but couldn't find it. His case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.

"You go through phases of what should we do, what can we do, and the only thing I knew to do was to make fliers and I went to Jeff City and I posted them around all of the blocks where his car was found because I wanted everyone there to know we weren't laying down, that we weren't giving up and we're still not going to." -Christopher Cray's sister Jessica Council

Christopher Cray, a 23-year-old father of four, was last seen in the area of Schnucks supermarket, 1801 Missouri Blvd in Jefferson City on May 20, 2014.
His car was found abandoned six days later on May 26.
On June 11, 2014, Office of the Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman announced it was believed he was possibly in route to the Belle area driving a white Ford Crown Victoria with several other people. Police asked the public for help finding Cray and were assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control and Boone County Task Force One with locating and confirming potential crime scenes.
Initially when we began this investigation we began it as a missing persons investigation. As time goes on however, while we've tried to remain optimistic evidence and information we have received is kind of pointing us to the contrary so we're really taking this investigation as less of a missing person and really focusing it on more of a potential homicide investigation.
-Captain Doug Shoemaker
On July 1, police announced the missing person case was now a homicide investigation.
For several weeks officers and detectives combed through trash with cadaver dogs at the Allied Waste Landfill located at 5605 Moreau River Access Road in the eastern part of the city.
Cray was allegedly cooperating with police in another investigation, and the information he provided may have been the motive behind his murder as his cooperation led to the arrest of an individual” who was associated with the suspect. A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows on June 17 one suspect sent a text message to a witness in the Cray case which said the witness would “die like the first ‘rat.’ That suspect later admitted to authorities he sent the text message, the police statement reported. Two men were arrested, since then charges against both men have been dropped.
Shoemaker said the investigation is not strictly focused on the landfill anymore and a lot of work still needs to be done.
His sister has fought to keep the case alive and find justice for her brother, granting interviews to the press and making public appeals, but the case remains unsolved.
"We are still investigating a series of leads and other sources of information regarding the case. We have not ruled anything out as of yet to include various locations. We have not stopped the investigation. It is still very open and still very active." -Capt. Doug Shoemaker
The Jefferson City Police are continuing to interview people with knowledge of the events surrounding Cray's disappearance.
