A woman who has been searching for her missing daughter and her family made a horrific discovery inside a vacant home on Detroit's west side Monday.

Brenda Fields found her own daughter, 27-year-old Alicia Fox, dead, wrapped up inside a blanket. But the search isn't over -- the victim's two children remain missing...

Now investigators say they're searching for the woman's husband, Erin Justice, who family members believe has left the state.

I cannot keep track of how many parents/family members/friends have found their missing loved ones deceased anymore. WHERE IS LE? Law enforcement policies regarding missing persons need to change immediately. RIP Alicia.

I agree. However, the Detroit Police Department is so severly understaffed and faced with steep budget cuts due to the city's well documented decline and bankruptcy. It's a sad state of affairs for those that live in the city right now. Hopefully they find the two children.

Police looking for children after mom's decomposed body found in vacant house

Tony Briscoe/The Detroit News

Detroit — Police continued to search for two children Tuesday after their mother’s body was found Monday in a vacant house on the city's west side.

Officer Adam Madera said an Amber Alert was expected to be issued Tuesday for 6-year-old Kaylah Hunter and her 6-month-old brother, Erin Justice.

“We are really trying to see if anyone knows where they are,” Madera said. “We’ve been working tirelessly through the night and expect to have a breakthrough today.

“Getting these children home safe is our main concern.”

The search for the children follows the gruesome discovery of their mother Alicia Fox’s body, which was found by relatives, who also were handing out flyers and searching on Penrod Street. Police have no suspects in her death as of Tuesday morning...

I cannot even begin to imagine being the one to find a loved one's body. My prayers go out for the family.

June 9, 2014 11:46 PM

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A family member of a missing Detroit woman whose children can’t be found says he found a decomposed body on the city’s west side that’s believed to be her remains.

The body was found wrapped in blankets Monday night in the basement of a vacant home in the 6800 block of Penrod, near the Southfield Freeway and Warren Avenue.

Michael Fields told reporters that he found the body while searching for Alicia Fox, his 26-year-old niece...

Fields said he and his family began searching and went into the boarded-up home on Penrod Street. He said he smelled a foul odor and followed the smell into the basement, where he saw a door laying on top of bulging blankets. Fields said he pulled back the blankets and realized it was his niece.

“From the gruesomeness of the crime scene, it must have taken someone with a whole lot of heart to do what they did to her,” Fields said, while sobbing. “When I saw that I knew I was looking at a crime scene. She was right there. She was right there under a rotten door.”

Fields said as he peeled back the blankets, he saw the body’s legs were cut off at the knees.

Oh, dear God, where is that Amber Alert?

So this is why i took so long:

Doughty, of Southfield, said she last saw Fox at a family barbecue on May 24 on Detroit's east side. Fox seemed OK.

"I didn't think there was anything out of the ordinary," she said.

Craig said that the information reported by Fox’s family is that “she had left her home, packed her belongings, and left with the children, so it wasn’t anything early on that stood out as being odd.”

Fox was formally identified by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, who determined that she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including two to the head, said Mary Mazur, a spokeswoman for the office. She said Fox’s death was ruled a homicide... Mazur, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office, said the body was not dismembered. She said it was severely decomposed.

I thought an Amber Alert was going to be posted for the missing children? :waitasec: I've checked several times today and don't see one.

Questions have been raised about why an Amber Alert has not been issued in the case.

During his news conference, Chief Craig said that, following the disappearance of the three, it was determined that the case did not meet the criteria because Fox originally disappeared of her own accord.

It was also determined that it was not an emergency situation.

The FBI has now joined the search for two Detroit children after their mother was found dead Monday in a vacant home in the city.

Police have had contact with both of the children’s fathers — Kevin Hunter and 28-year-old Aaron Justice — and Detroit Police Chief James Craig said both men are cooperating with investigators.

Brief report on WDIV news at 4:00PM. The missing children's case did not meet criteria for Amber Alert, but LE is desperate to find them. :please:
