On April 11, 1988, Patricia Trish Elsken didnt show up for work. The 24-year-old managed the Nine West shoe store in Woodland Hills Mall while also attending The University of Tulsa. When she didnt arrive, her mother was contacted. Along with a neighbor, her mother went to Elskens apartment in the 7300 block of South 99th East Avenue and found her. Elsken had died from stab wounds and her apartment had been ransacked, according to news reports.

The body of Patricia Elsken was found by her mother and the apartment manager after co-workers said she failed to report to work at the "9 West" shoe store at Woodland Hills Mall on Monday.
Elsken, who was dressed as if for work when her body was found about 11 a.m. Monday, died of blunt trauma to the head, said an investigator with the Tulsa medical examiner's office. The body also had superficial stab wounds.
The body was discovered in the bedroom at her south Tulsa apartment, said Tulsa police Sgt. Steve Steele. "It looked like there was quite a fight in there," Steele said.

Patricia Elsken, 24, the Tulsa shoe store worker found slain in her apartment April 11. After what may have been the most difficult investigation of the year, police have a suspect, but no conclusive evidence, Steele said. A "long-term, day-to-day" investigation continues, Steele said.
Trish's mother eventually filed suit over her daughter's death:

Patricia Elsken was found dead in her apartment on the morning of April 11, 1988, an apparent murder victim. Earlier that morning, at 10:33 a.m., her intrusion security alarm was activated. In response to the alarm, Network tried unsuccessfully to contact Patricia Elsken by telephone. Unable to reach Patricia Elsken by phone, Network contacted the apartment manager's office and advised the manager of the alarm. The apartment manager did not immediately check Patricia Elsken's apartment, and by the time the apartment personnel went to investigate the apartment, police and emergency vehicles had already arrived.
