'A 40-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a prominent defense attorney outside his office Friday', around 8 am, in Somerset, Kentucky.

Clinton Inabnitt was charged and arrested at the scene.

'Dead was Mark Stanziano, 57, who had represented a number of high-profile defendants including one charged with a triple murder.'

He had practised law previously in Colombus, Ohio.

Just from what we have....this case makes me think of Elliot Rodger, Isla Vista, shooter in a way.

Where's Tulessa? We need you here.....

This case was originally reported as having happened in Boyle county. This is the same attorney who is/was representing the man who killed the owners of a Danville, Ky Pawnshop and robbing them. I live local.

The Boyle County Advocate Messenger states that the man who killed him lived across the street from the attorney's office. The killer stated he decided to kill him because he had sought assistance from the attorney thursday night but the attorney refused to help and had laughed at him. Stanziano was a well known defense attorney perhaps the best in the state. Apparently the problem Inabnitt approached Stanziano with was not an attorney type issue. The killing did take place as Stanziano left his Somerset office.:twocents:

'Somerset Police Department spokesman Shannon Smith declined to describe the problem but said Stanziano would not have been able to help.
According to an arrest citation reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader, Inabnitt later admitted to being angry not because Stanziano denied him help but because he laughed at him. '

Well, I believe Inabnitt believes Stanziano laughed at him - but I'm not certain that's really what happened. Or maybe he did ask something really crazy, that Stanziano thought was a joke?

All the articles about this seem to be citing cases Stanziano has won for his clients. But to be honest, I don't think his being a successful defence attorney has anything to do with his death - except in that it attracted Inabnitt to ask him for help.

According to a recent Central Ky news article, the victims wife said that her husband had tried to help this man get mental health treatment and bought him food on numerous occasions and that her husband would never have laughed at him for any reason.

I think I see a mental deficiency defense coming.

Lawyer fatally shot outside office in Kentucky

SOMERSET, Ky. — Clinton Inabnitt was a regular at the convenience store in the center of this small town, known for complaining that the police were conspiring against him and telling nonsensical stories while he fixed his breakfast. For months, he’d been talking to Somerset’s top defense attorney, describing his problems and asking for help.

On Friday, Inabnitt waited for Mark Stanziano to arrive at the downtown law office he shared with his wife, and without a word, he shot him at least four times, killing the attorney in front of several witnesses and at least one law enforcement officer, according to police and witness accounts.

This is just tragic.

'Stanziano's wife said her husband would not have laughed at Inabnitt and tried frequently to help him, even offering to help find medical treatment for the mentally-ill man.

“My husband talked with Clinton on numerous occasions. He never avoided talking with him. On many occasions he offered him help, even buying him lunch. I know he spoke with Clinton about his emotional problems and offered to help find him medical treatment,” said Stanziano.'

Cause he will have to participate in his own defense ?

From August:

A mentally ill man who shot and killed a prominent defense attorney in Somerset was sentenced Monday to 20 years in prison.

Clinton D. Inabnit, 41, will have to serve at least 17 years before being eligible for parole, said Commonwealth's Attorney Eddy Montgomery.

Inabnit pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the June 2014 slaying of Mark Stanziano.
