A 1984 cold case is heating up. Tulsa detectives say new evidence is leading them closer to a suspect in the case of murdered TU student Melissa Moore.

If this case is solved, the sad news is, it'll be too late for her parents, because they've already passed away. They desperately wanted answers and suffered greatly over their daughter's death.

Her brother is still alive and lives in Muskogee and has waited a long time for her killer to be held accountable...

Pryor is about 45 miles east-northeast of Tulsa.

And then there's this:

Melissa Ann Moore, 22, was last seen leaving a Tulsa sorority house in 1984. Four days later, she was reported missing. Her drowned body was found April 17, 1984, floating in a creek seven miles northwest of Pryor. Eastridge said DNA was linked to a known suspect, who drove a car matching the description of one seen where Moore's body was dumped and where her car was found.

Brown said OSBI agents presented information to the Mayes County district attorney in 1985, 2002 and 2005. "We have to leave it up to them whether or not they want to move on with the case," she said. Mayes County District Attorney Gene Haynes could not be reached for comment.

Eastridge said he contacted the case agent and offered to help him get DNA testing done on any other items associated with the case. Because federal funding pays for the cold case unit in which Eastridge worked, testing gets done faster through the grant than through usual channels; lab workers collect overtime for running the cold case tests. "The agent told me he did not have enough for a charge," he said. "He did not want others looking into this case and later called to complain" to Eastridge's supervisor, Agent-in-Charge Gary Perkinson. "The bottom line is they've known who killed this girl for years," Eastridge said, "and he's never been arrested for it."

A 1984 news article:

Investigation Into Tulsa Student's Death Begins

I joined this forum because of this case. Just watched An Innocent Man on Netflix and it made me think of this case. Melissa was a friend of mine. We went to school together at TU. My best friends GF was her best friend. We called her “Mel”. So sad that no killer has been found. Maybe you guys here can find something. I know at one time the police tried to tie serial killer Gary Alan Walker to Melissa’s death.

Still unsolved 30 years later:

So apparently OSBI has DNA linking a suspect who drives same car as reported being seen at dump site. And they do nothing. Crazy.

No excuse for this miscarriage of justice. So sad . This is a perfect case to start a Facebook page about, especially with former Detective Eastwood’s comments on the case! I think he is awesome, btw. Read that article a while back and thought “Damn, that’s what a real, kick-*advertiser censored*, honest detective looks like.” As far as I could tell there was no Facebook page for Melissa Moore’s case, and creating a page could really help to put a spotlight on the TPD and pressure them to charge the suspect. If any of the friends or family members stumble upon this post and feel like you want to create a FB page, but don’t know where to start, please feel free to message me and I’d be happy to give some help and pointers on what worked for me. I started a Facebook page for justice in a suspicious death case back in January along with the family of the person who died, and now in Feb we have 3,000+ likes, new leads coming in, and multiple news stations contacting us to cover the story. It gets pretty crazy to manage at times, but Facebook and social media can truly help revive cold and even closed cases, and expose corruption to the ruthless court of public opinion.

I found this article when looking around. This guy they mention on the article is a name I believe I have researched for a Tulsa murder (not mentioned in the article). The article says they are trying to link him to Melissa’s murder. I am going to go look and see if this is the same guy.
