GUILTY IN - Kathy Taylor, 23, drowned in bathtub, Terre Haute, 2 April 1975

From your link:

Kathy Dean Taylor was found dead by her husband, Earl Taylor, in her bathtub. Earl said a clock radio fell in the water but police say the evidence proved otherwise.

Days before her death, Kathy Taylor found out a few things about her estranged husband, Earl. Court documents say he was having an affair and Farm Bureau Insurance fired him. And speaking of insurance, the company reported earl took out five life insurance policies in Kathy’s name without her consent. He was the sole beneficiary. Kathy Taylor died on April 2, 1975...

Taylor’s clock radio had a cord that wasn’t factory-issued: It was about four feet longer. But a review of autopsy photos by Dr. Roland Kohr showed him Kathy wasn’t electrocuted. Her lungs took on water, and her body had injuries consistent with drowning.

A December trial date has been set for a man accused of killing his first wife, Kathy Taylor, 39 years ago.

Earl Taylor, 62, appeared via video Wednesday morning in Vigo Superior Court 1, where he requested a public defender in the first-degree murder case.

Taylor was convicted of murdering his second wife, Mindy, whose body was recovered in 1987 from her submerged car in a pond off of Poplar Street near Deming Park. Taylor was sentenced to 60 years in prison in that conviction. He served more than 25 years of that sentence behind bars before being released from prison in January.

So nice to see a cold case moving forward.

A request for a change of venue for the murder trial of a Terre Haute man accused in a 39-year-old homicide has been taken under advisement in Vigo Superior Court 1. However, it does not appear that a Dec. 8 trial date will remain set for 62-year-old defendant Earl Taylor.

Taylor replied, "I'm not happy, but I have no real choice" when Judge John Roach let the defendant know that the trial will likely be rescheduled for April 2015.

Trial scheduled to begin tomorrow:

The jury will likely not hear any statements about Earl Taylor’s prior conviction for killing his second wife, Mindy, whose body was recovered in 1987 from her submerged car...

A former Vincennes resident, Kathy was 23 years old at the time of her death. She lived in C-Mar Estates north of Terre Haute with her 22-year-old husband, Earl, a Sullivan County native who was a graduate of North Central High School.

Earl Taylor has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the death of Kathy Dean Taylor.

He was originally set to be sentenced on March 9, but on March 4 a potential juror misconduct was alleged.

Kathy’s sister, Bonnie Dean, didn’t seem concerned about the legal wrangling to follow the sentencing. She and her family finally have closure.

“He needed to pay for that, and today we got that justice,” she told News 10. “So we’re happy it’s finally come to the point where he’s being held accountable for what he did.”
