Kane County prosecutors said 47-year-old Shadwick King has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 32-year-old Kathleen King.

Prosecutors said, early Saturday morning, Shadwick King asphyxiated his wife at their home in the 800 block of Oak Street in Geneva...

His bail was set at $1.5 million on Friday during a bond hearing at the Kane County Courthouse. He’s due back in court on July 23.

Judge James Hallock approved a prosecution request to subpoena the cellphone tracking information of Shadwick R. King, 47, and his wife, Kathleen King, 32, whose body was found on railroad tracks earlier this month near the couple’s residence in the 800 block of Oak Street...

King allegedly attacked his wife after accusing her of infidelity and then drove her body to the railroad tracks, Sams said. A specially trained dog detected the presence of human remains in the backseat of King’s car, Sams told the judge.

King remains in the Kane County jail, where he is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bail.

A Kane County jury Monday night found Shadwick King guilty of strangling his wife in July 2014 and dumping her body on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Geneva's first murder in nearly 40 years...

King, who did not show any outward emotion when the verdict was read, will be sentenced May 6. He faces between 20 and 60 years in prison without the possibility of early release...

During the trial, which began two weeks ago, prosecutors showed how King obsessively tracked Kathleen, who struck up an emotional affair via text message and Facebook with a 22-year-old Massachusetts man she met at Army training in Texas earlier that year... Her pink iPhone, on which she exchanged 3,499 text messages with the Massachusetts man, was propped up on two railroad ties next to her head, which was lying on the steel tracks, Sams said.

The sentencing for Shadwick King, convicted of murdering his wife and dumping her body on the Union Pacific tracks last July, has been moved from next week to Aug. 10.

King, 47, faces 20 to 60 years in prison for Geneva's first murder since 1975.

Meanwhile, Kane County Public Defender Kelli Childress has filed a lengthy motion for a new trial, a move that is seldom granted but a necessary procedural step for King's appeal.
