Detectives search new areas for missing Ruch woman

By Jessica De Nova/KTVL.com

[...]

"We have received some additional new leads as of recent," said Detective Eric Henderson with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

[...]

Henderson said Thursday, Ames remains the only person of interest in the case.

"The evidence in the case at this point indicates that he did have someone to do with her disappearance," said Henderson.

Henderson said Ames is in Belleview, Florida, but detectives need the legal means to go after him.

[...]

Anyone with any information in the case, is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

"When you have a case, when you have probable cause, which means more likely than not a certain person committed a crime, well we can issue a warrant for their arrest for that crime and they can be extradited for that crime," said Henderson.

Henderson hopes to find that probable cause hidden in new search areas.

"We're gonna be focusing our searches primarily on areas where we knew that Stephanie had gone before and also some of the areas where Lennie Ames, uh, was known to camp out, where he was known to go gold mining. He did have several mining claims out in Jackson and Josephine County area," said Henderson.

I love that Stephanie's name has made it to that big, yellow box above our heads! :)

Me too. I was so happy when that popped up on my screen!!! My fingers are crossed for more positive news for Stephanie's case.

THANK YOU to whoever made Stephanie the featured case again (was that you Kimster and/or Bessie?). :tyou: It is so exciting to see that yellow box at the top of every thread.

Locals will want to know that Detective Henderson has asked for volunteers to help in the new searches that will take place in Jackson and Josephine counties. This is mentioned at the end of the KTVL video linked below. Contact JCSO to volunteer. Main number is 541-774-6800.

For anyone new stopping by, here is the Timeline thread to get up to speed quickly.

Lilibet, you know you mentioned there are three missing people in Humboldt Cnty in the last thread?

Well, a body has been found there, but I couldn't find any recent missing people there on WS?

http://www.times-standard.com/crime...underway-body-found-near-dinsmore-off-highway

Here you go. Both Danielle and Sheila have been missing since late January and the same man was apparently the last one to see each of them. I think it's likely to be one of the women, considering the location and condition of the remains. The missing man Jeff Joseph has only been missing since June 21, a little further north. Sadly, all three of them likely had some involvement with unsavory elements in Humboldt county's marijuana growing community. It's a dangerous line of work.

I have just recently read all the threads, posts and links that were available from start to finish. I am truly confused as to why when it was first apparent that Stephanie went missing, LE did very little on this case. There was little media coverage, posters etc to make the public aware. Perhaps if more information had been released to the media, to promote public awareness, this case may have been solved.

However, this
group has done an amazing job in research and bringing about public awareness. Kudos to all of you.

Welcome to Stephanie's forum Tarika! We are always appreciative of new members joining our discussion! I know it took you a while to read all the threads; so, please put your 2 cents in, we'd love to hear it! :welcome4:

In retrospect, it does seem opportunities were missed. Maybe there was a fear Lennie Ames would lawyer up and refuse to answer questions, or disappear, if publicity became intense?

As he did disappear when he was named a POI, it seems those fears were grounded. For someone who stood his ground and fought for his 'right' to squat and live where he wasn't allowed to for so long, I find it deeply suspicious he upped and ran away from this.

Blush. I forgot to welcome you Tarika. But I do.

Thank you, Tarika, for your kind words and for taking the time to read everything. That's amazing! It helps to know that someone looking at this case with fresh eyes has the same questions and frustration we had from the beginning. I hope you'll stay with us and help us keep a vigil, waiting for justice for Stephanie.

This request from JCSO July 23, 2014 has always made me wonder what was going on:

BBM

NewsWatch 12 is complying with a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office request to avoid releasing additional details about the investigation for now.

The Sheriff’s office says making too much information public could put the search for Warner at risk. The sheriff’s office says they expect movement in the case in the coming days or weeks, and at that time coverage will continue into the situation.

This was published the same day that KOBI ran the interview with Ames and son. The video was never posted online, although Roma's story July 3 this year contained a snippet. Ames later claimed that he had all three stations come interview him. Only KOBI ran the video, AFIK.

I've always been curious what info they thought releasing would put the search for Stephanie at risk. Perhaps LE already thought she had been murdered, but didn't want to show their hand yet. Or, they may have hoped as we did that she was being held in the woods somewhere in one of Ames' bunkers. Or, as you said, Zwie, they may have been trying to prevent Ames from lawyering up and/or disappearing. Perhaps it will all come out at the trial.

Finally read all the threads here for Stephanie. Can't believe it's been over a year and "nothing" has come up with searches... hoping Ames' son's wife splits from him and TALKS!! She definitely knows something about what happened to Stephanie.

Prayers and hugs to all of Stephanie's friends - especially DiCentra, her son and mother!

:greetings: Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Niner. I hope you "stick around." :)

Yes, I agree that she knows something and I hope that whoever is the weakest link will talk, if only to negotiate a lesser charge. I don't think there is any way that Ames is the only one involved in or knowledgable about Stephanie's disappearance. JMO

I'm very worried that Oregon's declared a state of emergency due to all the fires. In Medford it looks like they have an arsonist too, as they've had about 13 suspicious fires in a row recently.

I hope there aren't any in the areas we think Stephanie may have been left. :(

Holy cow, hadn't heard of this and that's not that far south of me. Might explain the heavy woodsmoke smell on the air. Goodness. :(

Hoping this does not hinder LE's efforts in any way.

So far, none of the wildfires are in Jackson or Josephine counties, but of course, that can always change. It's going to be a tough summer. Hopefully Henderson can get the searches done before any fires break out, or someone sets one to cover up evidence.

The house fires are in and close to Medford. Fourteen at the last count. The latest one could have killed the homeowner if alarms hadn't awakened her. I doubt Stephanie was left in Medford, but again, anything is possible.
