Victorian man Gary Lyddieth missing in outback Western Australia

Gary Lyddieth has been missing in remote Western Australia for over a month.

The family of a Victorian man missing in outback Western Australia have made a public appeal to help find him.

Gary Lyddieth, 54, left Victoria in late April and drove across Australia in a white campervan.

He arrived at Meekatharra police station on May 3, asking for directions to Gascoyne Junction, and has not been seen since.

His daughter Caitlin Lyddieth said police may have been the last to seen him.

"He actually went to the local police station to get directions to Carnarvon," she said.

"They gave him what is quite a simple route, although a dirt road and can be quite hazardous."

She said his bank accounts had not been touched for a month and his phone had been switched off.

Ms Lyddieth said her father needed insulin and other medication.

Police appeals as search efforts fail

Carnarvon police are calling for public information on a Carnarvon-bound man who has been missing for more than one month. Gary Lyddieth, 54, was last seen at Meekatharra Police Station on May 3.

Police believe he was travelling to Carnarvon to meet friends, with plans to go to Gnaraloo Station. Mr Lyddieth did not arrive in Carnarvon. A missing person report was filed on May 7.

He was driving a white Nissan Urvan campervan, with the registration number ZWZ097.

Carnarvon Police Station Sergeant Dave Loverock said due to heavy rains that weekend, Mr Lyddieth could have travelled north and attempted to travel back down the coast to Carnarvon. Sgt. Loverock said Carnarvon Police Station was co-ordinating the search, but needed more information.

“We’ve exhausted all inquiries, we’re just asking for people to be on the lookout and report any information to us, ” he said.

“We’ve done searches up to Gnaraloo, road searches out to Meekatharra and aerial searches.”

Anyone with information is asked to ring Carnarvon Police Station on 9941 7900.

I understand they declared him dead

The Deputy State Coroner was satisfied beyond all reasonable doubt the deceased has died, she was unable to determine how, when or where the deceased met his death. Accordingly the Deputy State Coroner made an Open Finding as to the manner of death of the deceased.
