A Sharpsburg man is guilty of first-degree murder, robbery and burglary for fatally shooting his aunt's fiance and stealing jewelry from their home last year, an Allegheny County jury ruled Thursday.

Common Pleas Judge David R. Cashman on Sept. 9 will order Michael Lapaglia, 23, to serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Police said Lapaglia drove to his aunt's house in Kennedy on July 21, 2014, and shot her boyfriend, John “Jack” Parkes Jr., 59, at point-blank range before ransacking the house to search for money and items he could pawn.
