GUILTY AL - Woman & child, 8, abducted, sexually assaulted, Ozark, July 2014

Police say David Pitts, 44, of Ozark, was behind the horrors that unfolded, abducting a 30-year-old woman and 8-year-old girl from the home on County Road 58 at knife point late Thursday night. Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey says Pitts lives in the victims' neighborhood...

"Police officers were notified last night of a missing person concern involving the 30-year-old female and the 8-year-old female. As time went on, we search for them, a BOLO was issued for them," Spivey said.

According to police, Pitts took the victims to a secluded area off of Alabama 123 about 10 miles away. There, Spivey says he raped the woman and molested the child- the whole time armed with a knife and gun. Ozark police believe Pitts held the victims all night and then Friday morning, he let them go, forcing them to drive him to an undisclosed location and drop him off.

According to Anniston police, the suspect has been identified as 44-year-old David Pitts, who is considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen in a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan with an Alabama license plate reading "26AP540." Pitts is 5-foot-9, 175 pounds and has blue eyes and brown hair.

David Pitts, 44, of Ozark, has warrants out against him, charging him with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree theft of property, and first-degree burglary.

The Ozark man that police believe abducted and sexually assaulted a woman and an 8-year-old girl may have left the region, Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey said Sunday.

“We feel pretty certain he’s gone from this area,” Spivey said.

The 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan Pitts was last seen driving was found Saturday morning in Coco Beach, Florida. It was impounded by law enforcement.

An Ozark man wanted for allegedly abducting a 30-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl was taken into custody Monday in south Florida.

Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey confirmed Monday evening 44-year-old David Pitts, who faces six felony charges, was taken into custody without incident in Palm Beach, Florida, by the U.S. Marshal Service.

An Ozark man was recently sentenced to 50 years in prison in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter...

After pleading guilty, Pitts was convicted of seven felonies and sentenced to 50 years for first-degree rape, 20 years for first-degree burglary, 20 years for sex abuse of a child less than 12 years old, 15 years each for two counts of second-degree kidnapping, 15 years for first-degree theft of property and 10 years for first-degree criminal mischief, court records show.
