On the day Medford, Ore. man James Calvin Patterson Jnr was found guilty of attacking, imprisoning and trying to strangle his former girlfriend.....

'....the victim said Patterson became angry at her in his Sunset Avenue home. She claimed Patterson struck her with a hair dryer, threw matches at her, raped and sodomized her and strangled her during the rape until she passed out.'

....... his new girlfriend announced they are engaged.

Laura de Laarm wept outside the courtroom after the verdict and says she wants him home as soon as possible:

"I love him and I will be marrying him," she said. "It's like a Lifetime movie."

(I'd politely suggest she's more likely to find herself appearing in an episode of Investigation Discovery in future, with this taste in partners. Patterson's former girlfriend only escaped by breaking down a boarded window in the garage he'd locked her in.)

Exactly which Lifetime movie? :waitasec:

Cause I've seen some creepy and disturbing Lifetime movies, so she might be right.

The prison visits will wear her out. The case reads as though he is in for a long sentence, the prison visits over such a lengthy sentence will make her passion for him run cold. :cat:

Guilty!

But is 10 years all the jail time these offences are worth?

'A Medford man found guilty of assaulting his on-again, off-again girlfriend and locking her in his garage was sentenced to 10 years in prison this morning.'

'After a four-day trial, a jury Friday found Patterson guilty of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of strangulation, fourth-degree assault and attempting to commit first-degree assault.'

The Prosecutor had asked for the maximum 14 and half years, but said he understands where the judge is coming from.

I wonder if Patterson will be eligible for parole before his 10 years is up?

I agree with the prosecution that the offences are worth the 14 and half years, the offender Patterson is clearly an extremely violent man and had been in prison on other violence charges. (I read the articles) He should not be in the community where he is a danger to people. What he did to his girlfriend was shockingly violent.
It would be interesting to know when he will be eligible for parole, if it is before his 10 years are up or on completion of the 10 year sentence. We may never know.
