ugh. i hate to post this. this happened today not far from me.

KUSA – A 2-month-old baby is dead after the child was rushed to a Denver-area hospital with head trauma and at least one bite mark. The child's 21-year-old mother was arrested.

Kelsy Newell-Skinner is facing charges of child abuse resulting in death.
..........

The infant arrived at Children's Hospital brain dead with "severe bruising on her head, a swollen left eye, fractured ribs and suspected bite marks on her left thigh area."
.........
The mother said she must have been very drunk and 'did not remember' the night.

Arrest records for Kelsy Newell-Skinner, 21, indicate she sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend on July 27 saying, "She must have been very drunk last night because she just woke up and the baby had been beaten."

According to the arrest affidavit, another text said, "The baby's head was banged up and her eyes were bruised and swollen shut."

Police said Newell-Skinner also has a 15-month-old and three other kids under 5 years old
.
She's 21 years old with 5 children!! Oh, but there is more......

mother told police that the first text she had received from her daughter that day was one saying she was depressed she didn't have any money.

No $$$$$ but she keeps reproducing AND getting drunk.

If you look on her mom's or ex's FB pages, her name is spelled Kelcy with the last name starting with an "L."

And OMG, after reading that affidavit, I can't imagine what the other kids saw. They must have been terrified. Poor, poor babies. :(

Thank you! I found it right away

What's going to happen to the other four children? SMH. Don't they have family planning clinics in America? I wonder if she was already under the watch of
CPS? I'm lost for words. JMOO

The autopsy results released Tuesday show the infant died of blunt-force injuries with complications.

Among the numerous injuries listed by the coroner were numerous cuts and bruises on her head, forehead, face, neck, body, hip and arms. The baby had a mark on her thigh that is consistent with a bite. She had "hemorrhages of the optic nerve" and bleeding in other parts of her brain. Natalee did not have signs of drugs in her system.

The mother accused of killing her 2-month-old daughter smiled and said hello to her family during her court appearance on Aug. 7... Newell-Skinner's mother shook her head in court as the judge read the murder charge. She also exclaimed, "Love you, Kelsy!" as Newell-Skinner was leaving the court, escorted by deputies. "You're going to be OK," she also told her.

Apparently DHS was previously involved but there are conflicting reports about the circumstances.

Here are two news articles. The first is from August 26 and the second one is from August 27:

The statement released Tuesday also seems to be contrary to a DHS report made to the Denver Juvenile Court just this week, which notes several referrals in Kelsy Newell-Skinner's history dating back to 2003, most listed as "unfounded," "inconclusive," or "no disposition."

As far as family planning clinics go, we have them here in the U.S. and I'm boggled too - why did KNS instead choose to birth 5 kids so close together when clearly she wasn't able to take care of them? SMH.

:gaah:

June 2015:

The governor signed a new law that requires that every adult with access to children in a placement home to undergo an extensive background check including an FBI fingerprint check, comparison to the national sex offender database, including address verification, and verification by judges that the checks have been completed...

The legislature acted after [7News investigator John] Ferrugia found that the Denver Department of Human Services had placed children with a registered sex offender. And then, once they were removed, were placed with a woman convicted of child abuse...

The governor also signed a bill to make the state child protection ombudsman -- a watchdog office -- independent from the state department of human services. Legislators charged there was a clear conflict of interest as the ombudsman often had to investigate and make recommendations concerning the very agency that controlled its budget. The office will now be within the state judicial department...

The sponsor of the new law says a 7NEWS ongoing investigation of current systemic flaws in DHS practice and supervision, including the beating death of two-month old Natalee Skinner-Hurst and the death of another baby, have helped spur action to make the ombudsman independent.

Hopefully Natalee's death will help to protect other children, at least.

May 2015:

CASEWORKER ROTCHANA MADERA ADMITS TO FORGING REPORTS ABOUT BABY WHO DIED

Afterward, Natalee's father told a local TV station that Denver Human Services hadn't checked on the baby even though Newell-Skinner had numerous referrals in her name dating back to 2003 and had tested positive for marijuana use when the child was born.

The agency publicly denied dropping the ball, based on documentation by the caseworker assigned to the matter, Rotchana Madera. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that Madera had forged many of the reports — an act to which she's now pleaded guilty...

The child lived at an apartment at 10700 Hampden Avenue with her mom, Newell-Skinner, and her father, Jonathan Hurst, as well a fifteen-month-old brother and three additional half-siblings — a set of three-year-old twins and a four-year-old...

Madera hadn't visited the house, hadn't seen the victim, had faked documentation about phone calls and had falsely reported that the baby tested negative for THC when the opposite was true..

Madera, who subsequently resigned from her post, was arrested in January, and she's now pleaded guilty to forgery and official misconduct.

Her punishment is modest. She received a two-year supervised deferred judgment in regard to the forgery beef and two years of supervised probation for the misconduct charge that will run concurrently.

The family of an infant who was beaten to death by her mother has sued a Denver social worker claiming wide-scale fraud and breaches in health-care standards.

The civil lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Denver’s U.S. District Court on behalf of the estate of the infant, Natalee Marie Skinner-Hurst, her father, Jonathan Roberts Hurst of Aurora, and other family members (...)
