GUILTY TX - Gabriella Guerrero, 3, & Natalye Price, 1, beaten to death, 24 July 2014

Preliminary autopsy results Thursday indicated the deaths of Natalye Price, 1, and Gabriella Guerrero, 3, were homicides.

Quitman police said the bodies were discovered July 24 after officers responded to a report of two children not breathing. Witnesses reported seeing a man running from the apartment and throwing items into a trash bin.

Police later arrested Thomas Wayne Liles, 19, of Quitman on a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Liles remained in custody Friday with bond set at $50,000. Investigators declined to release further details on Liles, whose original bond was $25,000.

And just days before the sisters' deaths, police were called to their apartment for an alleged assault. An incident report shows Liles cut himself, but it says he didn't hit or threaten the girls or their mother, Daphne McDaniels.

Liles was kicked off the property when McDaniels told police she didn't want him around her kids and wanted him to leave.

The Quitman Police Department said Monday that the mother of two girls found dead in a Quitman apartment was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder.

Daphne Elizabeth McDaniels, now a Tulsa, OK resident, was arrested and charged after months of investigation that spanned three states...

McDaniels is being held in the Wood County Jail on a $2 million bond.

Family members of two Quitman toddlers found dead in their mother's apartment were stunned by the results of an autopsy released on Tuesday.

The report explains 1-year-old Natalye Price and 3-year-old Gabriella Guerrero were killed. Examiners found more than 30 cuts and bruises on the girls' heads and bodies as well as internal bleeding and damaged organs. The investigation into their death started on July 24 when the girls were found dead inside their mother's apartment.

After months of investigation, during which interviews were conducted in three states, the Quitman Police Department has announced that another arrest has been made in the case of two toddler girls found dead in their beds on July 24 at Dogwood Villa Apartments in Quitman.

Dalton Lee German, 22 years old, of North Little Rock Arkansas, has been arrested and faces charges of Injury to a child, a second degree felony. German was a friend to the mother, Daphne Elizabeth McDaniel, who was recently charged with Capital Murder in the death of her daughters.

A third person has been taken into custody in connection with the death of two East Texas toddlers. Dalton Lee German, 22, of North Little Rock, Arkanas, was arrested and is currently in the Pulaski County Jail in Arkansas. He faces charges of injury to a child, a second degree felony.
Police said German was a friend to the mother, Daphne Elizabeth McDaniels, who was charged Monday with capital murder in the death of her daughters, 3-year-old Gabriella Guerroro and 1-year-old Natalye Price. According to the autopsy, the girls died from blunt force trauma to the head.

"He reached in and grab the eviction notice, handed it to us and said look we're not going to have any part in what happened over there, anyone that had a part of it is being evicted they will no loner live here and that's it," German said.

German says this has made a hard week even harder.

"I just lost my nieces, we don't need this on us," German said. "It's like everyone is being hurt and they don't care."

German says he and his fiancee have been late on rent payments but have talked about it with the management company. He doesn't see any other reason to be evicted.

German said he often babysat the two girls and he just saw them Wednesday night before they went to sleep. "They're like my nieces," said German... German said Liles is the one who came and got him, and told him the girls were dead. German said he immediately called 911.

A mother accused of murdering her two children has accepted a plea deal on lesser charges.

Daphne Elizabeth McDaniels pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison on the charges.
