Timmy Ray "Rabbit" Vernon, 22, of King, was last seen August 9 near Waiteville, W.Va., a few miles north of the Virginia border.

Vernon stands about 5'6" tall, weighs about 135 pounds and has blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a greenish or turquoise T-shirt, a hat and boots.

Oh boy, it's been a week... :( How's the weather been in the area Timmy obviously got lost?

Dunno about the past week, but it's 72 degrees and raining out there today. Supposed to be a low temp of 59 tonight.

“There’s not much there. It’s big country and National Forest land.” said Captain Larry Case with the law enforcement section of the DNR. “He was at a hunting camp with friends from North Carolina and he walked from the cabin on Saturday afternoon and nobody saw him again.”

A day after leaving the camp, Case said Vernon managed to use his cell phone to call 911 and was able to speak with Natural Resources Police officers on two different occasions. Case said the use of the phone led searchers to conclude he’d made it to a high point on Potts Mountain to get a signal. “They had vehicles set up on different roads and they were hitting their sirens,” said Case. “He was going to walk toward them, but he never walked out and we don’t know why.”

Officers also tried to pinpoint the location of his cell phone using GPS technology. “They were working off a couple of different cell phone pings,” Case said. “That area was searched extensively with our trackers and a couple of different search dogs, but with no luck.”

Scary and sad,i couldn't imagine to be lost in the woods. I sure hope they find him soon and he is ok.

Vernon was reportedly on an outdoor adventure with friends when he walked away alone from what Brogan described as “for lack of a better word — a hunting camp.” The officer said investigators found no sign of any sort of altercation at the camp.

He added, “We have some other leads we are following up on. This is a very intense, ongoing investigation”...

Brogan would not speculate on Vernon’s fate, saying only, “We’re just in an investigation mode now.”

On Tuesday, West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Police Captain Larry Case said the case was still open but, after over a week of extensive searches there are currently no active searches being conducted.

“The last concerted effort was on Saturday,” he said, adding that effort included DNR personnel as well as a number of local search and rescue teams. “We have basically run out of places to look. That area has been very well covered.”

“It down-poured every day we were up there,” said Suneagle, who, along with other member’s of the family, was at the search site for most of the week. She said the wet weather had prevented helicopters from being used until Wednesday. “When they got a chopper up they did not sense any body heat at all.”

Case confirmed that a national guard helicopter had performed a heat search of the area with no positive results. He said officials in the area have not given up, but are waiting in the hopes that some new information may be uncovered that can spur future searches.

I can't believe there are no updates and it seems like they just stopped looking and gave up. I have read that he was armed and that he also had warrants...Hope is ok where ever he is..

Some family members posted extensively around the anniversary of his disappearance, so it looks like unfortunately he hasn't been found :(
