Nearly a quarter-mile off the road, Thomas J. Bergstrom, 51, built a 20-foot-by-20-foot compound of pallets and bright blue tarps. A transient, that's where he hooked up a TV and watched it from his scruffy recliner near 100 NE Pine Island Road.
Anthony Cashdollar found him Saturday morning, stretched out on the ground, blood congealing on his arm and mouth, just feet from the recliner.
"I was so shocked, I just sat my hand on his back," Cashdollar, 18, said Sunday night, adding that he called "Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. ... Then it hit me that Tommy was dead."

A Cape Coral Police Department report goes into detail about the murder of Thomas J. Bergstrom, 51, who was living in a homeless camp off Pine Island Road. His body was found by a friend Saturday morning.
A "bread-and-bagel" knife and a white Halloween or hockey-style mask with blood on them were listed in the report as being found at the scene of Bergstrom's murder...
Cape police also found blood splatter on the mask matched a pattern on Munoz's face, and writing on the mask was similar to the style of writing found in Munoz's room. The report said that Munoz's mother identified the mask as the same style as one she had bought him.

Yoel Munoz is now charged as an adult with first degree murder and burglary while armed.
Attorney Stuart Pepper, who's not affiliated with the case, says because he's a juvenile Munoz won't face the death penalty, but life in prison is a possibility. "He would be facing a minimum of 40 years to life without parole, or life in prison," explained Pepper. "It's up the judge to decide that."
According to prosecutors, police first interviewed Munoz at Cape Coral hospital after his parents drove him there with a stab wound to the leg. He told officers, "I don't want to talk about it. I'm not trying to get shot."
