Ottawa police are investigating the discovery of a body in the Ottawa River Friday afternoon near the area of Ogilvie Road and Rockcliffe Parkway.

Police spokesman Const. Chuck Benoit said officers are removing the body — a woman in her 50s — carefully to avoid disturbing any potential clues to how it got there.

“They're investigating around where the body is found,” he said.

"Police said Friday evening that the woman has been identified and next of kin has been notified. The name of the victim has not yet been released."
