Authorities say they are treating the death of a Jacksonville woman whose remains were found earlier this year as a murder investigation...
The skeletal remains of 26-year-old Shunte Coleman were found in a wooded area of San Augustine County back in March, nearly eight years after her disappearance. The body of Terri Reyes was found in that same area in 2007, one month after her own disappearance. Both women were scheduled to testify against former Jacksonville police officer Larry Pugh, who was being investigated on sexual assault charges.

Pugh, a former Jacksonville police officer, is serving 12 years in federal prison for sexual assault while in uniform and retaliating against a witness. He is located in a medium security facility in northern Florida and is set for release in May 2018, according to federal jail records.
In a 2006 Progress article, Coleman's grandmother, Margaret Anderson, said she believed Pugh to have played a role in her granddaughters death. Word was put out in Jacksonville that if anybody testified (against Pugh), they'd be dead, Anderson said.

Both women disappeared while Pugh was out on bond from federal court, and according to the Progress, the disappearances occurred before Pugh was arrested in August for attempting to wrap a belt around the neck of another female witness, whom he reportedly attempted to drag to his van, before the belt broke and the woman got away.
