'Police say a 5-year-old Texas girl has been hospitalized after she was trapped inside a running washing machine.'

The child was rotated at speed for 'several minutes' at Le's Washateria laundromat, but it is not clear who started the machine, or who was supposed to be watching the child. A worker broke the circuit eventually, to bring the machine to a halt.

The little girl was airlifted to a Houston hospital and is expected to survive.

It sounds like she may have done it herself - a horrible coincidence that someone HAD put money in it earlier and it didn't start - and then the little girl got in and pulled the door closed and it started?

I think you may be right, JeannaT. Woman with her had put money in, but couldn't make the machine work and turned around to use another.

'Police said the girl climbed into the machine in Pasadena, Texas, while the woman she was with was not looking.'

"One person walked by and said they saw something flopping around in there they thought it was just a dress or something because it was moving pretty fast."

This article also adds her injuries are not life-threatening.

Thank heavens it wasn't set to a very hot wash.

Had to be the dryer or the water would have come out when she got in, plus she could have drowned plus it tumbled, washers agitate..

Front loading machines tumble clothes in an up and down motion similar to hand washing.

Front loading machines typically use less water per load.

Good thing the girl survived.

I wonder why if one puts coins in a machine and it does not work. It is usually arcade machines back in the days.

Oh my goodness - how very scary! Thank goodness someone saw her and got her out before it was too late, and that she is expected to recover! We finally got a front loader recently and they mean business when it comes to spinning and cleaning! We have two new very playful and curious kittens and earlier tonight I totally freaked out when I couldn't find one of them - thinking that earlier one had climbed in while I was transferring the load into the dryer and putting a new load in the wash. It scared the crap outta me. Can't imagine a child or small animal - or any living thing going through that cycle and surviving, but so glad this child sounds like she will be okay!

Dryer or washer, I don't think she would have been able to close the door from the inside. If they're not shut, they won't run.
