The family was murdered on Robertson Way sometime late on Jan. 14, 1991. A homicide detective described the scene as "heinous." The victims included 33-year-old Michael, his 31-year-old wife Marcy, and their daughter Jenny, 9...

The motive was robbery. In the back garage, where Michael Jacobs was shot execution-style, investigators found an empty safe. Missing was a large amount of cash, gold nuggets, and possibly drugs.

A homicide investigator said he believes the Jacobs family wasn't involved in criminal activity and that Michael Jacobs didn't know what was in the safe, which belonged to a friend and convicted felon, Richard McCarthy. Whoever killed the Jacobs family knew McCarthy's safe was at this home. He disappeared months before the killings, but he is not considered a suspect and is presumed to be dead.

According to stories in The Bee, Michael, a carpenter, was found in the closed garage near an open and empty safe, dead from gunshot wounds to the head. His wife, shot in the face in the living room, apparently ran to the bathroom and tried to shield herself with the door, but was stabbed before she died. Jennifer, a fourth-grader at nearby Crocker Riverside Elementary School, was shot in the head. Police found her in a back bedroom.

Police found no weapons, and neighbors reported hearing nothing unusual...

Investigators took another look at the case in 2008 and submitted evidence for DNA testing, hoping the new technology would yield new information.

California officials to announce new efforts in solving decades old murder cold case of Marcy Jacobs

Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn along with California Attorney General Xavier Becerra are expected to announced a new effort to solve the decades old cold case in the murder of Marcy Jacobs and her family.

The details of the announcement have yet to be released, but the press conference is expected to be streamed live, which can be viewed by clicking here.

On January 14, 1991 the Jacobs family was murdered in their cottage-style home on Robertson Way. The victims included 33-year-old Michael, his 31-year-old wife Marcy, their daughter Jenny, 9, and a fourth-grader at nearby Crocker Riverside Elementary.

Police said Jenny was shot in the head as she slept, still clutching her favorite doll. Marcy was shot and stabbed, according to reports from the Sacramento Bee. A shotgun was believed to have been used to shoot the family.

Investigators found an empty safe in the back garage where Michael was found shot execution-style.

It's not exactly known what went missing, but investigators said it could have ranged from tens of thousands of dollars in cash to methamphetamine. The motive of the murders is believed to be robbery and whoever murdered the Jacobs family knew what was in safe.

Investigators don't believe the Jacobs family were involved in any criminal activity and didn't know what was in the safe, which belonged to friend, Richard McCarthy.

$50,000 Reward Offered For Clues To Triple Family Homicide Which Has Been Cold For 27 Years

here have been no new developments in a brutal 27-year-old triple murder case, but authorities hope that a newly-offered $50,000 reward will lead to justice.

Michael Jacobs, Marcy Jacobs, and their 9-year-old daughter Jenny were shot and killed inside their home back in 1991. The case was investigated more thoroughly than most at the time considering Marcy was working for the Department of Justice, but no charges were ever brought against a suspect.

Investigators believe the heart of the matter was a safe that Michael had agreed to temporarily hold for a friend. When authorities searched the home, they found that the safe had been emptied. It was believed to be holding a large amount of cash and gold.

The owner of that safe — who just so happened to have a criminal record — disappeared a few days after the murders. Police think he’s died since, but he’s clearly not the only suspected perpetrator.

Good article here from What Lies Beyond....

“From the start, detectives had few leads and unusual obstacles. Within hours of the discovery of the bodies, which were found around 10 a.m., a city labor dispute forbidding overtime sent investigators home when they could have been interviewing suspects and witnesses. News of the triple homicide took a back seat when the Gulf War broke out two days later. “

“When Marcy Jacobs didn't show up for work that Tuesday monring, a co-worker called police. When they arrived at the home, officers found two cocker spaniels in the backyard. Lights were on inside the house and a still-hot clothes iron sat upright near a stack of neatly folded blouses. The killers apparently fled through a rear door that was left open. "Whoever did this knew the family and that is why everyone was killed, including Jenny," John Cabrera, one of the original detectives, said. He believed one man engineered the plan and enlisted others to help him. Investigators surmised there were two or three killers, based on the caliber of bullets recovered from the bodies.”

mmmmm maybe family was killed because they did something shady , if these people just wanted the safe why not just break in home when parents are at work n daughter in school? why kill daughter if she was in bed? why kill any of them if they were just holding the safe ? i believe this family had to do something to make them upset to shoot in the face ? come on one of these killers had to have a heart. and why wait 3 weeks after richard went missing? why would michael TELL anyone the safe is in his also including his friend that seen what was in the safe ? makes no SENSE! why did they NOT rummage through rickys house if that was JUST one of his safes? why let a friend hold a valuable safe? wouldnt u tell that person DONT let anyone know safe is here, why would ricky risk his bestfriends family with this safe knowing the dangerous business he was in && knowing marcey and michael were drug users, drugs were found in their system, why not take it to storage???
