Jeffersonville Police Department officers were met at the door of the home by Oberhansley, 33, at 10 a.m., after a after a friend of Blantons had requested police check on her condition. According to the document, officers noticed fresh injuries to Oberhansleys hand and found his responses evasive.
Due to Oberhansleys behavior, coupled with his injuries, him being evasive in identifying himself, and the nature of the call, officers attempted to conduct a pat down for weapons... Officers located a knife with a brass knuckle handle and the blade extended in Oberhansleys back pocket. The knife had blood on it.
Police then entered to the residence to complete the welfare check on Blanton. Officers observed the hallway bathroom was covered in blood. A tent was covering the bathtub... When the portion of the tent nearest the faucet was pulled back, officers observed Blanton, deceased, with a large portion of the front of her skull missing.

A Clark County prosecutor said he is furious because the suspect should have never been released from jail. Joseph Oberhansley, 33, is no stranger to the law. He's a convicted killer who served time in Utah for killing his girlfriend. Two months ago he was out on parole and led police on a chase in Clark County.
Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said Oberhansley is a dangerous man. "Somebody with this individual's background, clearly and objectively needs to be in jail when he is committing crimes," said Mull.
But Oberhansley wasn't in jail Thursday morning. Instead, Jeffersonville police said he was inside a Locust Street home.
