The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) requests the public's assistance to identify the body of a young woman found in the waters of the St. Lawrence River at the height of Repentigny near Montreal. The body of a young white woman, aged 13-25 years, was retrieved from the waters of the St. Lawrence River on 01-Sep-2014.

No identification was found on the body of the young woman who spent several days in water.

She does not match any missing persons reported to the Quebec and Canadian police. "Despite all these efforts, we have not been able to identify this person," said the spokesman of the SQ, Gino Paré. "So she was probably not missing. "

The body of the young woman bears distinctive tattoos, including on the left forearm where one can see a ribbon of the names "Zoey" and "Sarah", in stylized writing, Another distinctive tattoo on her right thigh shows a small skateboard with an arrow inside.

The young woman was about 1.62 m (5 feet 3 inches) and weighed 40 to 50 kg (100-110 pounds).

The body bears no marks of violence contrary to what had previously been conveyed. "According to experts, these are attributable to the number of days spent in the waters of the St. Lawrence River," says Paré.

She wore sneakers marine brand name "Converse" and a dark sweater imprinted "Zo York." "This is a very unusual sweater that could allow us to identify this woman.

Those with information about this person should contact police at 1-800-659-4264.

Here is a representation of her tattoos. The photo is a little graphic, so I transferred the tattoo images onto an image of a live arm.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is trying to identify a young woman whose body was found nearly three weeks ago in the St. Lawrence River, Repentigny, Lanaudière.

The body of the victim was recovered from the waters of the river on September 1st.

Since the body remained in the water for several days and the woman had no identification on her, the police are unable to identify her.

According to estimates, she would be between 13 and 25 years old. The victim measuring 1.62 meters (5 ft 3 in) tall and weighs between 45 and 50 kg (100-110 lb). She has reddish-brown hair. Among her distinctive features, she had two tattoos, a skateboard with an arrow on the right thigh and a ribbon with the inscription "Sarah Zoey" on the left forearm.

"There are no signs of violence. The marks on the victim were probably made when her body rubbed on rocks that were in the river, "said Sergeant Gino Paré, spokesperson of the SQ. He added that it was too early to know if the woman was the victim of a crime.

It was earlier reported that on the morning of September 1, a passerby had spotted the body floating in the water and had contacted police in Repentigny. The investigation was subsequently transferred to the Sûreté du Québec. Anyone with information that can help advance may contact the SQ at 1 800 659-4264 investigation.

Thank you so much for putting that thread together and the trouble you went to to make the arm photo more acceptable for posting. The translation from the French was a good idea too, I really hope someone IDs her soon. It's a shame there's nothing in the English press as there are many places up-river Ontario/Vermont/NY from where she was found and possibly that's where she came from? I wish they gave more information about how long she could have been in the water....so sad that weeks go by with no one to claim her....

Identified. *Warning:* still has postmortem picture of arm. I do not see the point of publishing it after identification has been made. http://tvanouvelles.ca/lcn/infos/faitsdivers/archives/2014/09/20140922-092606.html

A body fished out of the St. Lawrence River in early September was identified by his tattoos, said Monday morning the Sûreté du Québec.

Police have shared photos of tattoos that were fished out of a river on September 1st body. These were the only evidence that the police held to find the relatives of the victim.

Less than two hours after the broadcast images, the mother of the victim manifested.

There were no traces of violence on the body.

Oh, I am glad she has been identified.

Yes, a translated text from French often defaults to he/him/his especially when the nouns are masculine. In the first article from September 1st the body had not yet been identified as male or female but 18 days (!) later in the appeal for public help the body was identified as female.

Sad case, particularly in the absence of any missing person's report.

Based on what I remember from high school French classes, the pronoun they used, ses, can mean "his/her/its [plural noun]." A headline linked in the article says "une jeune femme" which specifies it's "a young woman." I know, French grammar is confusing.
