Police suspend search for missing teen Jake Basto

Police say they have suspended their search for a missing teenager in Labrador.

Jake Basto, 18, went missing in the early hours of Aug. 9, after he left a house in Makkovik to go for a walk.

He failed to show up for work at the fish plant the next day.

The RCMP searched for a week, but then scaled back its efforts.

Hopedale residents join search for Jake Basto

About 20 people from Hopedale headed to Makkovik Wednesday after learning that the RCMP had scaled back its search for Jake Basto.

Human remains found just outside Makkovik on May 18, 2019, have been identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as 18-year-old Jake Basto.

Mr. Basto was 18 years of age when he went missing from Makkovik on August 9, 2014.

Makkovik RCMP advises there is no foul play in his death.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Basto’s family and friends during this difficult time.
