An Amarillo woman has been indicted on a capital murder charge in the April 8 beating and shooting death of her husband’s ex-wife.

A Randall County grand jury indicted Katie Yvonne Spielbauer on the charge Wednesday, and she remains in Randall County Jail on a $400,000 bond.

Katie Yvonne Spielbauer, 28, was arrested at her home April 11 and charged in the slaying of Robin Diane Spielbauer, 32. The victim, whose body was found lying next to an SUV on the west side of Helium Road just south of West County Road 34 on April 8, suffered blunt-force trauma and a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Katie Spielbauer was married to Robin Spielbauer’s ex-husband, Jeremy David Spielbauer, at the time of the killing.

Deputies recovered a damaged pink handgun from the home of a woman charged in the April beating and shooting death of her husband's ex-wife, whose body was found in a ditch...

Katie Spielbauer, who was arrested on a murder charge two days after the April 8 slaying, believed her husband and the victim were having an affair, according to a warrant.

A search of the dead woman's cellphone showed text messages indicating she was to meet her ex-husband, Jeremy Spielbauer, the night before her body was found near her SUV just west of Amarillo, according to a criminal complaint. His mother, Ava Marie Spielbauer, said Jeremy Spielbauer told her he didn't meet his ex-wife and his current wife didn't come home that night.

The deputies found the .22-caliber pink handgun on top of a gun cabinet in the defendant's master bedroom while executing a search warrant, according to court documents. Damage to the weapon led deputies to search the crime scene further, where they found metal pieces that matched the damaged areas, a criminal complaint said.

Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. Katie Spielbauer faces life in prison without parole if convicted of capital murder.

Based on her FB postings of quotes about lies and betrayal back in the early spring of this year, the accused was struggling emotionally with something back then, leading up to this crime.

There have been several past high profile cases of an ex harming the current romantic partner of the ex's former love. I can't recall this specific scenario though, where the current one harms the ex. Maybe I am just not thinking hard enough?

Just think of the movie "It's complicated". :)

I know a couple in real life where the ex-wife started an affair with her ex-husband after some years and an ugly divorce! He was always a cheater and found out that his new wife was not all that great (real life is different than having a secret affair) and the ex-wife wanted "revenge" as the new wife had "stolen her man".

Randall County District Attorney James Farren denied keeping Katie Phipps in jail longer than necessary, saying last week that he dropped capital murder charges against her as soon as new cellphone evidence was available in an investigation he called “the most frustrating and strange in his 30 years as a prosecutor.”

“At this time, if we understand the data correctly, and we believe we do, it showed neither her son’s phone nor Katie’s phone on the road that night at the time of the murder,” Farren said...

Farren said the investigation begins again. Phipps remains a “person of interest” because there’s “no doubt,” Farren said, that the weapon used, a .22 handgun, was recovered from the Spielbauer house. He also points to the polygraph tests and what he calls incriminating statements from Phipps.

New evidence in the investigation into Robin Spielbauer’s death was presented to a grand jury in Randall County on Wednesday.

“I can tell you that we have been working on cell phone tracking information and satellite tracking information and have consulted experts in those areas,” Farren said. “I can’t tell you that’s what the definitive piece of evidence was. In the last few months we have been concentrating on that and talking to individuals that we hoped would have helpful information. Some did, some did not.”

I saw this on Dateline last night.
Still wondering if they have the right person.

That Katie seems like a real smooth talker...

It was just on again tonight, and I am with you.

Recently there has been a rash on entertainment crime shows that just do not give the information that we always discuss here to support the conclusions.

I've always felt Farren bought a huge boatload of Texas cow patties from you know who. At any rate 7th Court of Appeals reversed Jeremy's conviction this past week. Unable to post link but it's on Google. Will be interesting to see how things proceed.
