The fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager Saturday by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb came after a struggle for the officer’s gun, police officials said Sunday, in an explanation that met with outrage and skepticism in the largely African-American community. The killing of the youth, Michael Brown, 18, ignited protests on Saturday and Sunday in Ferguson, Mo., a working-class suburb of about 20,000 residents. Hundreds of people gathered at the scene of the shooting to question the police and to light candles for Mr. Brown, who was planning to begin college classes on Monday.
Mr. Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, held a cardboard sign that said, “Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son.”

:modstop:

A couple of things:

1) We are not going to allow links to blogs in this case without prior approval. And approvals will be tough to get.

2) Posts directed at other posters rather than the case will earn a TO without explanation. If you have a problem with another member, use the alert feature and scroll on by OR use the ignore feature and keep it to yourself

This thread is for the Grand Jury but continue with your discussions regarding what is being released by MSM.

Please respect the right for all posters to post here. Discussions on different opinions are fine but they must be respectful or the thread could be shut down again. If you have an agenda probably not a good place to complain here. We are interested in what the Grand Jury will discover and the reactions to their findings.

Finally we have a lot of very active cases right now and a few trials that are getting a lot of attention so please, please try to behave. :please:

Ok, so this was the initial report today.

A judge approved the request by county prosecutors Monday in a case involving a drug suspect arrested in 2013 by officer Darren Wilson. The man's attorney wants the drug distribution charge dismissed because he doesn't expect Wilson, who did not attend the hearing, to show up in court.

So, the county prosecutors requested the case against Brooks who Wilson arrested be moved to the same grand jury hearing the shooting case.

The stories were updated throughout the day with more information that makes it harder to tell how this unfolded throughout the day.

Christopher Brooks Arrest Report

Thought this would be helpful as the def attorney is claiming OW roughed up the defendant. Which if you read the
"Offense Incident Report" submitted by OW, you may disagree with the def attorney.

JMHO

Interesting that the defense atty is NOW claiming excessive force. Because I dont think there was any complaint along those lines PRIOR to the MB incident.

So, this was not a bad thing. Officer Wilson is under protection due to death threats so the defense attorney figured he could get the charges dropped. The prosecutors wanted it moved to the Grand Jury. Bet this defendant is not too happy to hear that. jmo

Wilson received a Ferguson City Council commendation for his role in Christopher Brooks' arrest. But defense attorney Nick Zotos said his client was "roughed up" by Wilson and also questioned whether his actions merited special recognition.

Sounds like Brooks' attorney disagreed with Wilson receiving a commendation for arresting him.

Actually, per the many reports today, the defense attorney for the alleged drug dealer said that Wilson may be compromised in the State's case against Brooks, not in the Michael Brown shooting case. Will bring info here.

That story isn't very clear which case he's referring to. Hasn't Brooks already gone to court on the 2013 drug charge?

Exactly. In Brooks' case, Wilson is the arresting officer and would testify before the GJ as a witness for the state. The attorney thought he wouldn't risk surfacing to testify, so charges would be dropped at the preliminary hearing, but prosecutors outsmarted him and instead moved the case into the Grand Jury.

Give it time, this, too, will catch on and everyone Wilson arrested will be trying for an out on their case!

No, this was the preliminary hearing, iirc from all the links I read today. There's a bunch in the media thread I'll try to bring down.

Nothing to any of this IMHO. What this thread is limited to talking about really centers around a defense attorney's ill conceived belief that DW would not show up to testify against his client and without DW's testimony the charges would be dismissed. Not going to happen. DW or another officer will testify and summarize the evidence and the charges will go forward. End of story IMHO and not sure what there is to discuss on it. Just a defense attorney thinking he could get a client off if there were no witnesses willing to testify, and wrongly thinking so at that.

Officer Darren Wilson arrested Christopher Brooks on Feb. 28, 2013, after catching him and another man allegedly packaging marijuana to sell while sitting in a car in Brooks’ grandmother’s driveway.

The officer took control of Brooks’ wrist and arm, but he “was resisting all control and refused to follow all commands given,” Wilson wrote. The officer called for backup because he said the situation was “growing increasing hostile.”

“In recognition of outstanding police work while investigating a suspicious vehicle call,” Jackson told a packed city council chamber seven months ago. “Acting alone you struggled with one subject and was able to gain control of the subject and his car keys until assistance arrived.”

IMO, if anything, the way Officer Wilson responded during the arrest of Brooks helps his case re: Michael. The suspect resisted arrest and was charged with assault on LE. Wilson stayed calm, called for back up, and secured the suspects with only the force that fit the situation, in my read of the police reports.
